They are being a bunch of stiffs.

Someone has hit me who has no insurance. I have full comprehensive, so my insurance company is treating it like a claim, where they pick the repairer and then they tell the repairer to do a budget job.

I am sure a lot of you guys are with Just Cars and probly some of you are with AAMI, so hoping someone has some advice to offer me so I can take it where I want to and get a good repair on my car.

Possibly chase this guy up directly or write a letter etc?

hey buddy - had a problem like this with AAMI. the guy i spoke to on the phone he said that ther e is a 2 day period where you can get other people to quote for your car repairs - and then u give them to AAMI/JCI. So if you are still within the 2 day period, id suggest you perhaps tell them that you have a repairer in mind, and go through that repairer......

I went through a similar thing, call JCI again. Get some quotes from two-three repairers, then give them to the guy that hit you, if he won't come to the party, then get him to sign a letter stating he had no cover at the time of the accident.

In the highly likely event that they refuse, call JCI and get them to do it. Like the deceitful insurance company that they are, they'll call him and try and trick him into verbally confirming that he has no cover. After that they'll sort things out with getting it repaired (they might ask you for the quotes, i lived so far away from anything that they don't have a preferred repairer nearby so they went with the cheapest quote i gave them).

I was quite paranoid that it would stuff my rating, but they assured me that it wouldn't.

And as for they guy that hit me? No idea, they probably took his house. I haven't seen/heard from him since JCI took it out of my hands.

from my experience with JCI, they ask you to produce at least 2 quotes from approved repairers. so just go to ones that you think are acceptable, i havent come across a situation where JCI picks he repairer.

Read the PDS, legally it has to set out what happens when you have a claim and their procedure for choosing repairers. It will also set out a dispute procedure if you're not happy with the course of action they're taking.

Wouldn't recommend trying to chase the uninsured guy yourself - if he can't afford insurance, you have SFA chance of getting him to pay for your repairs.

JCI like AAMI go with the lowest bidder.

SOOOOOOOOO! Over the years I've become friendly with '2 Approved AAMI Repairers' that I trust will do a perfect job.

Then I know that they can bid against each other.

BUUUUUUUUUUUT! There are still 2 obstacles to overcome.

1) I've been told by the repairers that I need to convince AAMI that I can't take the car to head office at NorWest because of something like back pain suffered from the accident (for example) &

2) Let one of the repairers take hold of the vehicle on their premises, which makes it a little bit of a nuisance for AAMI to send a towie up to them.

All of this means that you have developed a short-cut to your preferred repairer!

eMsta: how long ago was this, I have spoken to them about 5 times and no-one mentioned anything about that, the accident happened on friday night, so I will try do something on monday incase they only include buisness days. But does this allow me to choose the repairer?

Red7: I have read it all even gone through the conditions, I have 3 levels of apeal: the accessor himself, the AAMI ombudsman and the financial ombudsman.

Do what i do. The body shop i go to has at least one person they know working for the insurance company. So what they do is ring up, ask what other quotes were given, then they beat it so they are the cheapest option and get the job :wub:

The thing iswhen you tell the panel beater or whoever that the job is for insurance rather then personal, they wont show you the figuire, they will ask for your name, insurers name and claim number and send it directly to them. This is because they always put a higher figure when its for insurnace so they get more money.

Yea to cover for the bargaining down of the insurance company.

Theres about $8000 in damage to my rear end and its going to need a chassis alignment, its not just a side swipe or cracked bar.

Tomorrow I am calling the AAMI ombudsman and apealing for choice of reparer under the facts that I have never made a claim in the 7 years I have driven, the car is less than 4 years old and that its value is high and that the accident was in no way my fault.

Im then gonna take it to a 3rd place for a quote and then to my prefered smash repairer and try have it declared unsafe to drive.

Also argue that the fact that your car is now an accident repaired vehicle from no fault of your own and it will affect the value when you resell it later. chassis re-alignment machines leave clamp marks on your chassis so it will be visible that it was straightened and was in a major acident :wub:

I had a similar incident with aami, but i think jci is underwritten by them if i am correct? AAMI tried to force their repairers on me but I had a little go at the guy on the phone. Said to him it is legally my right to take the car wherever I want to be repaired as it is my car and he said yeah go ahead and get 3 quotes from your repairer and bring it to the assessment centre and the assesor approved the cheapest one. (obviously)

Go to 2 repairers get quotes, then go to your preferred one and tell them you want them to take the work and they'll do it. Good luck man.

Let's say that Nepean Valley Smash and Blaxland Smash Repairs are AAMI/JCI approved repairers (which they are).

And since I've become friendly with Mal, Scott and Jason at one place and Tim at the other.

I know that if I take my car to Scott OR Tim, and leave the car with either of them, they can do my bidding for me. They can often think up some excuse why it's inconvenient to tow the car to NorWest.

One of them, (like another post here said) can ask a contact person at AAMI to let him know what the lowest quote is, and then undercut it by $50.

Another post ^^ mentioned how he had to become INSISTENT on his RIGHTS. Well sometimes we need to do that as well.

I even heard how a young man X got his mate Y in law school to call up NRMA as X's 'legal representative' to push the barrow of using a preferred repairer. And that worked like the post above said.

Insurers will 'spin' their gushy advert to imply that they're your friend. Even the telephone staff can be friendly.

But behind the scenes, the beancounters are lurking.... lurking.... lurking....

AFAIK you can get two quotes.

you choose one, they choose the other and which ever is cheaper they go with.

They only garruntee the repairs for 3 years also.

Its all in your PDS and policy wording. Once you have paid your prem and everything, that is the contract.

Cancel and go elsewhere, but as people have said, your better to keep going through JCI as the other person is just going to be too hard to get money out of!

i'm not a fan of just cars.....i'm currently insured with them..had an accident about early march (which we're holding the coucil responsible for because of the road conditions) and apparently they're still "following it up with council"
