hey guys,

i'm in the market for an r34 but finding a good manual gt is pretty difficult within my pricerange ($20000 absolute max) so i'm starting to think otherwise.

option one: buy an auto, much easier to find, seen a few i'd consider then convert from auto to manual.

option two: buy a gtt but remove the turbo & rework the ecu. is this possible with the new p plate laws? also, which would be the better option?/guess prices?

p plate rules suck.

removing turbo ftl

youll be stuck with a low comp ratio and long gearing and general gheyness

i personally like the look of the four door. but whatever

hope you can find a nicely priced 2 door.

that's the thing, part of it is using my own money the other part to top it off is my uncle lending me some. the only catch, his mechanic he's known for years has to inspect it. there was what i thought was a good one until the mech pointed out the 3 colours in the engine bay. =/

how would i go about getting it tested & inspected interstate? never done anything like that before, sorry about the newbness.

ok that's a good reason to limit the search!! lol.

As for inspection interstate there are several options. NRMA or the equivalent do a pretty comprehensive inspection (members get a discount), just make sure the mechanic that does it knows about sports/imported cars. (only some NRMA reps are certified for special vehicles). Otherwise if you know of a good mechanic where the car is, or actually know someone there who you trust. The other option is to see if any of the nice people here can help you (but ur still taking the word of someone you don't know).

Transport via train is VERY pricey. Via truck it's insured for damages in transport (clarify what exactly 1st)and should be no more than about $1300(that's if it is in Perth or something), Between Bris, Syd, Melb, Adel it should be heaps less..SHop around for transport as the prices vary a lot!

I have now bought 3 cars interstate via carsales.com and been very happy with them all! The key is ALOT of research and searching for the car itself and then all the other stuff, Good comunication with the seller (get a scan of their license, full address etc)

Discuss it with ur uncle and explain the difficulty your having, he may just be able to help more than you think, especially after he sees the effort YOU have put in first.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more Q's. I may not see this thread again.

Good Luck with the Hunt!!

alright, i've managed to narrow my search down to two cars.

one is a black auto, what seems to be a series 2 r34.

the other a silver manual gt4? is 4WD not an FR.

black one i'd only spend the transmission conversion money on. the silver quite a few little bits & pieces.

decisions...

thanks for your advice so far though. yeah after the last mishap parents are on my back about importing & transporting etc so i'm gonna try to work on these two, being fairly local & all.

just don't rush into it....Better to wait another month than buy a car that will be nothing but problems! just make sure it gets checked out so you know what ur in for.

Got links??

those are the options. i've been in contact with the seller of the silver one. black hasn't replied. white haven't tried yet. yeah i intend to have a comphrehensive check. like i said before i need this mechanic's approval before i can get it anyway. after the last one i doubt his opinion on them is very high though haha. i've been in the market for the past 3 months. it's beginning to wear very thin although all the extra research has helped. alot has just been searching for the one that stands out to me. there was one in particular i looked at though. it was the r34 gt-v? i think? the one i looked at was immaculate, should've got it then & there but had to go through the politics of a dad who "doesn't see why i don't just get a vs commodore" & an uncle who thinks i should get a supra. mum liked it though. sold a few weeks ago however =/ oh well.

now it's getting to the point where i just really wanna hurry up & get the friggin thing though haha.
