noticed on weekend when car reaches 8 to 10 psi of boost i get this weird noise all of the sudden.... it hard to explain its like a metal screeching noise......car runs fine. only does it on higher boost......car has stock turbo running 11psi from turbotech boost valve...could the turbo be on its way out or a boost/vacuum leak?

Could be many. I had the same noise though and all my bolts holding the turbo to the manifold had worked lose and the gasket wasnt sealing.

Luckily the gasket was still fine and a simple socket on the bolts fixed my problems :P

Check all your gaskets for one.

+ 1

and check the turbo for shaft play while you're down there.

oh the joys of imports. Pretty sure its not the exh manifold on mine, looks pretty solid on there, but will go out n have a poke around the engine bay in a minute, got most of the leaks i can find fixed, just have to do this V-band!

I actually thought that KKR turbos were meant to scream on high boost for some reason lol ;s

I had to put the heat shield off and walla. Could move the turbo up and down. Once it was all back together its amazing how quickly it builds boost. I guess over time you dont notice your reponse slowly dropping...

Thats probably the more extreme case, but the little lugs just couldnt keep the nuts in place.

If looks could kill... Dosent hurt to put a socket on and see, mine was finger tight on the last 3 (near No 6)

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
