hey guys my friends interested in getting a skyline but the problem is that his 6 feet 8" and the tallest bastard i know.

he hopped into my 32 and barely got into the foot well with his knee being able to shift gears for him.

now question is for the taller skyliners . how tall are you and what model skyline do u have? have u had comfort problems?

let us know. thanks

Dont know if this helps but in an old issue of SPEED magazine (prob the best mag in recent memory), they compared an R34 GTR with a 911 Turbo

The point is, the GTR belonged to a Basketballer, guy named Paul Rogers, and he is 7 foot tall. He fits in his stock R34 GTR with "a comfortable squeeze"

Article goes on to say, he had a R33, and had to have the seat rails moved back 5 cm

So maybe the best option for ur mate is an R34.

Ive driven R32, R33 and R34 GTS-T/GTT, and an R32 GTR (im a test drive whore). Im 6 foot, hardly tall these days, and have been comfortable in all 3, but found the R34 to be the roomiest.

If he has his heart set on a 33 or 32, shouldnt be too big a deal to have the rails moved back an appropriate distance.

Hope that helps

I'm 6 feet 3" and I must say it takes a bit of getting used to fitting in a R32 GTS-T.

Have to have the seat all the way back, and lowered and a good angle on the seat not to smash your head into the roof driving around the place.

Its something you have to get used to fitting into a small cabin but once you do its well worth it :P

lol yeh thanks guys...his more in getting a r34 himself anyway as he likes the newer side of things. he only sat in my r32 just to see what it would feel like to get into a smaller car.

he has a vx commorodre atm and he is a holden man but also the only reason he has a commodore is because of the amount of space and adjustability (in out, up down) of the steering colomn and seat. a he has driven in a falcon au-ba and headroom as well as foot well wasn't sufficient for him. this enables him to stretch out comfortably without a worry.

so for the r34 drivers, is the steering wheel colomn Very adjustable? seat as well? i know the r32's isn't lol.

I am 6'1 and have no trouble in my R34 GTT although with stock seats I had the seat all the way back (long legs or something). Once I put my Bride seats in the fit was more snug but I no longer had to slide the seat all the way back... basically, less head room but more leg room. Obviously I am not tall in comparison to this bloke though.

Joeyjoejoejuniorwhateverthehell is over 6'5 and fits in an R33 GTS-T... even more so now he has R33 GTR seats in there which sit lower than the stock seats and hence give more headroom.

The difference in driver cockpit between R33 and R34 is pretty small (I have owned both models and cranked the seat all the way back in both to fit comfortably).

I am 6'2" and have owned:

2 X 32 GTR

1 X 32 GTST

2 X 33 GTR

1 X 34 GTR

and I can tell you the 32 GTR is the most comfortable for me. particularly after fitting 34 GTR seats which seem to have the seat base a little lower than the stock 32 GTR seats.

only the 32s have height and reach adjustable steering columns.

the 33 was the least confortable for me as they have a big factory wheel which cuts down on the knee room and it's not reach adjustable.

the 34 is not too bad.

tell him DO NOT buy a car with a sunroof. in my 32 GTST which had a sunroof I struggled a little with the stock seats. It was better once I fitted GTR seats but still marginal, and my head touched with a helmet on.

Being so tall he will struggle for head room in any skyline.

probably the best option is get a 32 GTR or 34 GTR or GTT. if he gets the 32 or 34 T then fit R34 GTR seats, or get custom seats that are mounted low and well back. also get a steering wheel spacer to bring the wheel closer to him, that will give him more knee room behind the sterring wheel.

if he's a bit tubby as well as tall he will have even more drama. sadly most sports cars are not a happy place for the ample sized gentleman :)

i'm 6'6" (last time i checked, probly taller now) and have driven a few skylines, 34 isnt too bad for how far the seat goes back, i found width to be the problem (i'm a fat c*nt) and also found that my knee sits against both the side of the steering wheel and the shifter. can handle it for the short time im driving one, but woulndt even think about possibly considering maybe owning one, just wouldnt happen.

even then, height is a very general thing, really depends on how your proportioned. just go to a car yard and let him sit in one.

6'2" no problem fitting in an r33 gts-t, although it's all a bit dicky feeling as the wheel is too far towards me, the gear stick is too far away and my knee's stick out the the footwell by a mile. You can tell these car's where designed for small people.

I am around 6'1" and use my R33 GTS-t as my daily comfortably. I even on occasion take my car on 500+ km trips in relative comfort, although I will admit after 500 kms its good to get out of the car :P

I have the seat about 3/4 the way back (so when I have my foot full on the clutch my leg is bent about 45 degs) and my seat leans back a little so my arms are bent when I turn the steering wheel as much as I can without moving my hands. I find my set up a good compromise between comfort and controllability.

My knees never bash on anything in my car. Neither does my head, even with my helmet on.

The only issue I have with my car at the moment has to do with my weight. I weigh around 60 kgs and when I take my car to the track or attack some twisties, I slide all over my stock seats and basically have to brace myself on the door or fire wall or transmission tunnel to stop myself from driving from the passenger seat.

Speaking of passenger seats, stock passenger seat isn't that good either, can't get it to lean forward enough for my liking. If I wanted to sit in a recliner I'd go home and fall asleep in front of my TV

The back seat is a joke, but after counting the number of doors on my car, I don't really care :P

Here to help

I have a r33

I am 6 foot 8 also and had my gf's dad who is a qualified engineer take out the seat. He did something to it not entirely sure what he did but he took it back 100mm. I fit awesome now. Only thing is if your under 6"2 you will struggle to drive it but i am sure that could be fixed to. Took him about half an hour.

If you have the choice put in a smaller aftermarket steering wheel with flat bottom to give more room around legs. I couldn't cause it has a passenger airbag and removable would be putting myself at risk.

Bride seats and rails would be a bit better as they sit lower and will give you the extra room for height but the price is not worth it.

Talk to a welder who knows what he is doing and it will be a piece of piss for them

^^ Good post although the Bride seats can be obtained 2nd hand I suppose

BTW If you ever saw someone nick your car and drive off with it,

At least your initial description to the Police would be, "Well sir the thief was > 6'2" and..."

Sorry couldn't help that!

:P

Tez.

yeh i guess he'll jsut have to sit in a r34 and see how he goes..his pretty fit, sporty dude and his legs go fon for miles. his knees are the most worry he has as it sticks out heaps out the foot well.

so some of you guys ahve gone so far as to get flat bottom steering wheels and custom making new rails...dayum lol.

think it will be so much easier for him jsut to get into another commodore as he is a holden boy and he fits like a glove in them but i was the one that got him into the skylines.

well i'll see what he decides to do..thanks for this guys

They werent custom rails, dont ask me how they did it but a good welder should know. It took 30 mins, dont let little things like this get in the way of owning a skyline

Don't mean to pick but R34 GTR seats DID NOT fit in my R34 GTT. The rails would have required a decent amount of modification to fit and so I went with the Bride rails and seats.

Bride seats and rails would be a bit better as they sit lower and will give you the extra room for height but the price is not worth it.

I found that with my model of bride seats/rails I lost head room. Just something to check if you end up splurging on some.

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
