My car (r34 vs2) is stuck at the compliance shop. I get different

stories but basically it barely starts and if it does it doesn't hold. Initially they said

the injectors were getting pulse but now they say they are not. Runs for two seconds,

they said. Plugs checked and not fouled. ECU is nismo, not stock, but must be close.

No check engine light. Alarm disarmed.

I call tuning shops and they are all backed up, and/or need the car flatbed to them and

back. I'm having trouble with the idea that it is a major problem as the car came

from zele and they don't have cars in their showroom that can't even be started.

Anyone here know someone who can do a visit (south brisbane) to diagnose the problem

at least to the point of being sure it needs to go to a tuning shop?

please PM me.. running out of options. If it won't start, it can't get complied -- I'm trying

to avoid more flatbed trips, charges mounting up.

thanks!

Hey mate,

Spoke to Barry twice this afternoon. By the time I rang him he had already sent it up to another diagnostic guy. He is a German fellow that does ECU diagnostics for a living. Hopefully he will have some success with it but when I spoke to Barry at the end of the day he had not made any progress. He said the car will not turn over now.

Barry mentioned to me something about the two immobilisers but I think we can do something to bypass these. I also think there may be any issue with the Nismo ECU. I don't know if you are the same bloke that I have spoken to on a couple of different occasions regarding the Nismo ECU in your R34 GTR but if not, then that's ok. I will be heading down there with some diagnostic equipment tomorrow at lunch so if the German bloke has no luck with it, hopefully I will be able to tell Barry why it won't go.

Cheers, Daniel

thanks mate, I really appreciate it.

The immobilizers (factory and clifford) keep getting blamed but the clifford is 100% off/disarmed/inactive..

so that just leaves the factory nissan alarm. Presumably it indicates its state via the red light on the dash,

and is a lot simpler than the clifford.. you press unlock, and hear the door locks chunk.. starter motor wouldn't

even turn over if the factory alarm was getting in the way. And the clifford guy points out that when the

clifford arms nothing lights up: no dash, no starter, nothing. So I really don't see how it can be an immobilizer

unless its a third secret hidden one.

I look forward to what today brings. So far we've had Barry, an alarm expert, Warren (another alarm expert

but with all the clifford software) and someone else with a nissan consult interface, now this german guy

and probably you as well. This car is turning into a serial killer of experts ... I am scared of seeing the final bill

for "compliance", lol.

I'm sure everyone is on the edge of their seats on this one so I'll wrap it up with a semi-happy ending:

$180 spent on the above-mentioned german fellow traced the fault to the nissan factory immobilizer .. which was beaten back into shape somehow, and now the car runs as it should have to begin with! I should be able to get my hands on the thing by next week now after compliance finishes up.

Tossing up whether to drive it down sans-plates to sydney, or ship it down..

Fly up, I'll give you a beer for your trouble and drive the thing back to Sydney so you can teach it a lesson on the way home.

Inland route isn't bad, and is generally quicker time-wise than the coast route (despite being ~30km longer). Last time we went to Sydney we came back by heading west via Musswelbrook, then north through Tamworth (we have a photo of the 33 parked in front of the Golden Guitar lol), Armidale etc, then east to Coffs via Bellingen, then up the coast. If you want to go inland the whole way, instead of heading to Coffs you can continue north via Glenn Innes and Tenterfield and come out around Warwick.

Reverse this for your purposes of course but that's how we plot our trips back from Sydney

how about max octane fuel en-route
We had no problems getting 98 the whole way. Make sure you fill up just inside the Qld border though, fuel jumps in price once you hit NSW.

Coffs Harbour, Armidale, Muswellbrook should all have 98, if you need to stop before you make it to Sydney you can stop at Hexham or Wyong. I'm not sure about going via Tenterfield, they may or may not have 98 so if you need that, you're safer heading south to Coffs then west to Armidale, then south from there to Musswelbrook, then head towards Sydney.

done the coast road several times, byron, nimbin and all that jazz

but is an inland route worth doing? mountains forests .. ?

how about max octane fuel en-route :)

So how long till you finally came out of nimbin.. hemp-bar lol

    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much

    • 😜 hopefully we get this instead of a new R36 GTR due to recent financial problems at Nissan. Nismo to sell a complete kit with RB26 and driveline. All starts making sense (ok maybe not) once the Nissan Leaf's (Leaves?) with stuffed EV motors/batteries hit the market cheap
