Hey,

I have this really irritating problem, if I rev the engine over roughly 3000rpm with the clutch fully pushed down (ie. disengaged) I get this nasty whiney noise that pretty much doesn't stop until I re-engage the clutch.

Does anyone know what this might be, is there a simple way to fix it? Or do I need to explain things more. I can probably take a video of it too.

It drives me nuts. :P

Thanks!

Does it make the noise while in neutral, foot off the clutch @ 3000rpm+ ?

No it does not, only when the clutch is pushed down.

Here is a video of it:

First few revs, foot off the clutch.

Then I rev with my foot pushing down on the clutch and the noise starts a bit.. do it again and the noise doesn't stop, even when revs climb down to idle.

The noise stops once I take my foot off the clutch near the end.

Dude, it does it when I'm shifting, so if the revs were going to fall off from > 3000rpm it will make this annoying sound and it's loud and embarassing.

Please don't tell me to take my revs over 3000rpm when I'm driving :) That will make me cry.

Well, you didn't tell us that. You said:

"if I rev the engine over roughly 3000rpm with the clutch fully pushed down (ie. disengaged)"

That suggests to me you are doing it deliberately.

It sounds like it might be a dud thrust bearing.

usually the thrust bearing would make a cricket sound when the clutch isn't being pushed before it got this bad....... did you notice a sound of a cricket while in neutral at the traffic lights or while warming up the car???? I had a similar prob in my r33 gtst, changed the clutch and all that and it went away....

it will be your thrust/throwout bearing. it seems unusual that you would get a new clutch installed and they didn't change the throwout bearing.

yeah it is very strange but it sounds right...... if it is the bearing then don't get them to do it again or demand it free if it looks old...... otherwise dont know what else it could be without looking at it...

Mate, just wondering if you've fixed what wrong?

I have the similar problems just recently. When i clutch in and give it some throttle, the revs would just stay there at won't drop. even when i take my foot off the clutch the revs still doesn't drop. and like you said, I could hear a nasty noise when the revs are high-ish with the clutch in. cheers
