Why are people only concerned about outright power? Sure it may have only picked up 7hp at the top but what about midrange? What about on/off/on again throttle response, fuel economy?

Doing a dyno test tels you sweet fa realy about the drivability differences between having and not having a cat.

If he only lost 7hp at that power level, there is no way it will effect midrange, throttle response or fuel economy, although i wouldn't be surprised if he lost a few db

The point is, is that I have a cat which is a legal requirement. The other point is that with other cats around I wouldnt be able to achieve the power it is currently making.

Come for a drive, the throttle response is perfect, the mid range is intense.

Fuel economy is not worth mentioning - but you wouldnt expect it to be.

yeah I agree, the funniest part is there are people on here who think you can make 600rwhp for $5k

I wasnt trying to make a point about my power, I was trying to point out that you can actually buy a cat that will flow that sort of power, which I find totally amazing. But maybe ists just me :-)

lol the extremes/risks some people go to for an extra 5kw baffles me...

Couldnt of said it better my self.

Cats are their for a reason...

for a extra 5kw gain, its terriably selfish to decat ur exhaust and have all that shit go out of ur car.

For anyone that is running no cat, i hope u get caught and pay big...

Its about as bad as speeding through a school zone.

CATs usually dont have to replaced too often. THey can last for many many years.

But i hate it when the car infront of puts their foot down and lots of black shit comes out and smells like shit and is probably giving me cancer thru my open window.!

How hard is it to put in a nice hi flow cat!

How many HP you goint to lose? 2 or 3?

Come on guys dont b so cheap.

LOL!^^

ok i use both , i have a 'de-cat' pipe for track and a high flow cat for street . can you honestly tell me the average diffrence in emmisions between the pair? , i bet its not as bad as you think :) . Has anyone actually been fined using a 'de-cat pipe' on the street?

hey man,

some protection better then none right? That goes for more then just cat and de cat issue! haha

Ive been behind my friends turbo accord thats straight thru, and the shit that thing puts out is crazy.

Wasnt nearly as bad when he had his cat in it.

and its probably not as bad as speeding thru a school zone.. lol! i was just making a point!

But it does annoy me when people speed thru school zones.

I hate the pet, im not gonna run one in my car.

Anyways i dont run one but then again i dont drive my car much (6months and 1000kms) how can we compare/contrast this to a person with a car that does 10,000kms per year and boots it all the time? I dont know the answer to this question it just came to mind!

hmm i was just thinking, with the tune mine runs (very rich!), and the fact that it blows a big puff of fuel smoke when i boot it, i think my cat may already be dead :(

Oh and Spoolup, does your car make that power whilst still meeting all emissions requirments? :(

cats job is to heat up to arround 350 400 degrees as fast as it can so it can burn all the nastys before it comes out ya tailpipe. runnin a decat pipe is obviously lettin all that shit come straight out behind ya. I dont know about anyone else but anyone who wants to breathe anything that only burns at 400 degrees is welcome to, im not so keen.

also yeah if you run to rich and unburnt raw fuel hits your cat it starts to disintegrate the cat material, so crew who are running excessivley rich or have a rev limiter that makes ya car spit flames and all that you probably not goin to have a very efficient cat.

just some friendly info. i was more curious about power gains when i asked which is better but i know what i will do now.

cheers
