Hey all! Im Ross only new to the forum, been here for about 2 months now. I am the proud owner of a DEAD STOCK 1998 R33 GTS-T 40th Anniversary Edition. Brought the car in early July. Its my first import coming from a Mazda 3 SP-23 then not sure if i upgraded or downgraded to a BF XR6. I have been in the import loop for a while now never taking any notice to skylines though, I was always a Supra boy wanting to get an RZ or a GZ but couldnt find any that where appealing to me. After looking for about 4 months I decided just to stick with the XR6 till something special came along. A few months passed and my mate then purchased a 1996 GTS-T, went for a drive with him and at that moment the skyline bug bit, i instantly joined this forum reading hundreds and hundreds of threads familiarizing myself with the good old RB motors and just skylines in general. I decided i was after a late model R33 GTS-T over a GT-R simply because of practicality as it was going to be my dailiy driver (have not ruled a GT-R out as a weekender yet). Went and a had a look at quite a few GTS-T's none which really tickled my fancy, then i came across this one which was so so clean, the only let down being that it was an auto although it didnt worry me too much as i can just convert it later down the track. Since owning my car i havent looked at a supra in the same light since :P.

Anyway I created this thread as sort of a diary you could say for my cars progress as I am planning to undertake some work on it in the future and i thought that it would just be a good idea. Dont really have any major plans at the moment for the car, maybe just few small things before i decide to do something a bit bigger :).

Feel free to leave any feedback opinions or advice :)

Enjoy...

hey mate welcome to the forums. sexy car nice colour. i too have 40th anniv in black. funny your's is stock though. say goodbye to your wallet is all i can say. mine started stock and seriously gone overboard but i love spending money on my car. and im sure you will too. pride and joy. i also like cruising down the street knowing 99.99999% of the R33s out there are older than mine and their drivers would prefer to be driving a newer skyline. i think they have better resale too being a lot newer. mine has 64,000 genuine k's on the clock. still only a baby plenty of life left in her and the turbo.

Great car Ross.

Sincerely hope that it goes as well as it looks.

Bet it does. Take care of it - & you

Cheers,

Tez

Thanks for all the kind words Terry :3some:

my 98 40th anniversary

Nice as car is looking very cool. Yer once you get started one thing leads to another and before you know it your wallet is hurting haha, but i like you am planning on keeping the car for a long time coming and hoping on doing a few things to make it unique but we will see how things go.

skyline1he1.jpg

this is my 98 40th anniversary. with a list of mods that runs for a page long. wouldnt sell it for anything else though.

who are the womenz?

i hope they know that there is a little spiderman next to them

oh and nice car btw

i will admit the car has its ways with the women. but i like the way skylines have a hardcore JDM look too with a few mods. most S15 owners these days and other jap cars go for the sexspec look as you see at Autosalon. need more jap looking cars at these shows but i don't have the balls to put my car in any of these shows.

nice pics man...that red 33 series 2!!!! whos is it? are they black volk challenges on the car? if it is i was gona buy that car but was too late. :P...i reckon red 33's are sick.

Thanks man :P!

Yer man, its my mates car and yes they are the volk rims, he purchased it recently (did very well) so im guessing it is the one you where looking at.

Very nice car when its clean, i will get him to come to some of the meets.

Hey man, Very nice pics. I was tryna think of words to describe how it looks: Sexy? definitely! and it really pops with the GTR kit and colour.

Im sure many people would be hard pressed to tell it from a real gtr....this car is one people would stare at wherever you go, i know i would.

midnight purple or cherry purple is like the Rhianna colour for cars.....you just wanna eat it.

Hahah Thanks for the kind words man

Yer i get a few people asking me what kind of kit it is, but the front bar isnt actually a GT-R one its a nismo factory option if you take a good look at the pics you can distinguish but from a distance its looks the same.

As for the colour ;) thats why i brought it along with it being such a rare factory colour too.

I will start modding soon as i was going to sell it but now i have decided to keep it. So watch this space haha

nice car man! if i had the money when i was buying my R33 (6 yrs ago) i would have bought one but at that time it was like 30K+ for a 40th anni model in that colour. that midnight purple (if thats the colour) is also my fav skylines colour of all time too!

as for car being auto despite what some others have said above, take it from a auto r33 owner of nearly 7 yrs that its not hugely different to a manual performance wise. Infact, daily driving and straight line performance imo, i rekon its a better car. the manual only really comes into its own in the track and also great for big power mods. the only issues with the auto that i have found have been going through more break pads than manuals, cos u use breaks more to slow down and also getting a decent stand alone ecu to work with it. but at the same time, no need to replace clutches and i got a SAFC2 at the moment with a light tune and its running fine. just make sure u get a bigger tranny cooler and maybe not thrash the shit out of it it on 35 degree days  and just do regular servicing and it wont let you down.

ive done over 140,000 km's on the auto with around 190kws RWKW, (while not massive numbers) its still a daily driver and havnt had a single thing gone wrong. so your in good hands

    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
    • That's less offensive than the previous gen.....except for all that ugly black tupperware around the edges. Blerck!
    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
