hey man i know how ya feel..its sad but ppl do dodgys with these awsome cars and it really ruins it.

when i was looking for my 32 i hard my heart set on 1 in melb went over there test drove it everything was great..so i booked it in to get a full on check includin compression test, leak down test..the works..ended up having oil leaking every where, dodgy shit done to it..all in all woulda cost me roun 5 or so grand to get it alright...was the best 150 bucks i spent..n while i was there i found another 32 n did the same thing n it turn out good only a cuple tiny things needed to be done which only cost a cuple hundred and now i have had my beast for 9 months now n havnt had a problem..excpet crashing it 2 months ago but its getting fixed n should have it back in a few weeks

take your time buddy, dont rush into anything...

when i bought my audi i was looking at one in sydney, was nice, good price, everything i wanted.. got it checked out and it was down about 30kw due to faulty sensors, the box was shot, it had a towbar on it and had been in a prang and had repaired damage front and rear... stayed clear from that one...

bought one from canberra, same price, one owner, immaculate interior, highway kms, better colour.....

very very happy

How on earth can a person try and sell a car (or a poor representation of a car) like that??? Wtf

I wouldn't be able to lie straight in bed!!!

For you at least - it's a lesson learned; eh?

All the best! Tez

What adjectives did the salesman use btw; "superb"? "Fantastic?" "Fast?" "Impressive?" "Remarkable?" "Best?"

Tell you what! If I put the salesman on his backside, I'd wonder how superb, fantastic, fast, impressive, remarkable & best he'd look !!!

32s are cheap, for a reason. As you've found out.

They are what between 15-18yrs old so that's what your going to get.

For a immaculate, well maintained R32 GTR your going to have to pay for it.

The 18-23k R32's floating around are priced like that for a reason... not to mention their treatment and the likelihood you'll be rebuilding them in the near future (8k+ bill)

And finding something that is immac is going to take quite a while to find... that just how its getting these days as cars get older and so on.

I have been going through the same deal as you the last couple of months. In my searches i have also found a few dodgey R32 gtr's an some nice ones with too much rust for my liking but that happens when your looking at older cars.

There are definitly a few dodgey ones out there these days but like you im hoping to find a decent one some time soon.

Personally, I wouldn't restrict myself to Vic if U R in Melbourne or to Qld if U R in Brissy.

Likewise, just because I live in the Blue Mtns, and if I were looking for a pristine R32, I shouldn't limit my search to NSW.

So let's form a bank of reputable dealers/importers in each state.

IMHO, in this state, I'd keep in touch with websites of those with a good stable history in...,

i) Northern Suburbs Prestige

ii) Powerplay Imports via Ali

iii) Nagoya Imports via Alex

iv) Top Secret Imports via Garry

See how your brains trust grows with other states added on to the above...

Best of Luck/Scrutiny,

Tez :3some:

And good, low km R32's in Japan can still fetch a premium these days. One recently sold for about $23,000AUD in Japan

When I was in Japan I saw R32 GTR's selling for $45,000 AUD...

Even j-spec have a 32 GTR up for $32,100 at the moment:

http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/index.php?ID=13189

A really clean R32 GTR is a highly valued item not just here but in Japan also. What many people don't seem to realise is that most of the ones that end up on our shores are the shit that nobody in Japan is interested in and during that 15yr rule it was worse! This is not the case for all of them I know, but still.

mannn as some of you may no i have been looking for my r32gtr i found one was so keeen on it, and today i put it up on the hoist to give it the final check, fair enough a few light oil leaks thats nothin easy fix, drive shaft boots torn dats nfn and diff had a little leak but this is nothin as im a mechanic wouldnt be as expencive to fix, then i inspected the chassi and seals, they are all crushed and bent and worst of all rust it got worse, the tail shaft mountin bracket had been welded and a poor job i must say, also the floor has been cut out and covered up with a sheet of cheap metal and pop riverted back on. so sadly to say i had to say no to this car. As has been said over and over in this and many other threads; If it truley is a clean example it will cost money. My mate and I looked at loads of 32 GTR's here and gave up. I also know ppl who have bought $17k GTRs and thought they got the deal of a lifetime and then weeks later the list of problems had the car in the workshop for ages while they tried to scrape together thousands of dollars to cover all the repairs.

But it sounds like you know how to look over a car. Goodluck with the next one!

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
