Hey all, hope you all had a better weekend than I did. Went to buy a car for the missus on the weekend from Melbourne, we set off at 4:00AM on Saturday morning, she lives in Kersbrook so we left there to go to mine so that Steve could be a lovely chap and pick us up. Unfortunately, on the way, some f**kstick thought it would be funny to lie a rubbish bin a few meters after a blind corner, so there I was, 4 in the morning, minding my own business then BANG! Copped a direct hit on the car, shit loads of damage, front bar/lip, front drivers quater, drivers door, rear drivers quater AND headlight, probably $4-5000 worth of damage and I'm pissed!

Went back today to talk to the owners, apparently it's a frequent occurance with assclowns driving through to place the bins (which are kept a few meters from the road) onto the road itself so that oncoming traffic hits them. Funny what people pass off as fun these days, I or my missus could have easily been killed had the bin gone through our windscreen...

Anyway onto the damage pics :)

Yeah been to the police, they didn't really give two shits. Cop lady said "you'll learn one day not to drive these cars" Not sure what she meant by that but thought it was a rude statement to make...

Carl, yeah it sucked ass, insurance will come to the party (spoke to them already) but I have to pay excess and I have to be without my car YET again, it's just really disheartened me!

BTW Steve, many thanks again buddy! Really appreciate it, both Lana and I :)

Maybe it's because I've destroyed the rear quarter on my car, but the damage on yours doesn't look too bad. Looks like another front bar would do it, or repair your one if it's fibreglass. Still, thats bullshit man, stupid people that do this shit need to have some fking sense belted into them.

This would piss me off more than that actual damage itself. Who the f**k does the bitch think she is, pretty much blaming the car you drive for you hitting a bin lying on the road. I am a very well mannered young lad when speaking to police officers, but that shit deserves a fking serving and a half whether shes a copper or not.

Did you politely remind her it is our choice what car we drive and instead of criticising it do her f**king job and stop idiots leaving bins across the road on blind corners?

that really sucks  am glad youse are ok :)

stupid cop lady, obviously doesn't realise it has nothing

to do with what type of car you drive, has to do with wankers doing that and causing

accidents that shouldn't have happened :)

maybe she'll learn that when it happens to her

Andrew, the damage you can't really see in the pics but the headlight is scratched to all shit and cracked... there's $1500 already (Nissan and their Xenon lights!) Then there's the aluminium front quater, then the bin scraped all down the side of the car so once all is said and done, the damage will rack up to a fair bit I'd say. Will find out for sure on Tueday when I get to organise some quotes.

Ah ok yeah that'd do it, I didn't notice the guard + side scrapage. GODDAM on that headlight, thats crazy . I spose you'd want it all perfect but jesus for $1500 I'd leave the headlight til later :)

Most people that know me, I'm f**king ANAL about my cars, one little blemish and I have to get it fixed so I'd rather just fix everything and be done with it. Yeah it cost more but I get in the mindset if I don't do it now, I never will. I'm actually thinking of taking the car off the road for the next few monts, fixing the damage, doing turbos, clutch, dumps, computer/tune, etc so when it gets back on the road it will be a totally new car :)

    • Following from this in a related by not closely-related sense... Because I was buying a bunch of other GKTech stuff, I got some rear subframe collars. The history that leads up to this is: 25+ years ago the car arrived into the country with stock subframe bushes. At some point shortly thereafter I added Whiteline pineapple rings, set up neutral, and it improved the rear end behaviour. Well, it is my vague memory that I was happier with it with them in. Less axle tramp on launches, generally better, etc etc. ~2012 it got a new non-HICAS subframe with new stock bushes. No pineapple rings. I reckon that ever since then I've been dissatisfied with the axle tramp. Recently I've been f**king around a lot with all aspects of the suspension. One contemplation has been to relocate the rear lower control arm front mount points (and do the other things needed to make that work) to improve longitudinal rear grip by getting rid of some of the stupid anti-squat that Nissan ladled into the R32. But.... before doing that I thought I'd put some collars in. And.... The collars are good. The rear sounds a little bit different, but there has been no significant increase in NVH coming up into the body. In terms of rear behaviour - expansion joints on long sweeping elevated freeway ramps that would sometimes cause the rear to jiggle around a bit, no longer seem to do so. It appears that jamming chunks of metal into the gaps in the rubber so they can't move much is a really good thing. And the launch behaviour and general forward traction situation seems to be greatly improved too. It's impossible to be really sure, because the tyres are completely shagged - they are freakishly willing to let go right now. But as an A-B test with the same tyres it certainly seems to grip up a lot better. Highly recommended to anyone who still has stock bushes.
    • Bit off topic maybe but has anyone had a crack at one of those aftermarket electric compressors ? Bit of a search came up with one put out by Speedy Air Spares. Looks interesting and looks as if you'd have to run a big arse alternator. Found this out after the fact as my air con compressor packed it in and soon after my alternator ! !
    • Yes. Needs new ports. Usually just achieved by screwing an adapter onto them. Be aware that any AC compressor that hasn't been used in a long time will very likely have dried out seals and will not hold gas. Oh, and obviously you will require a new receiver-dryer also.
    • Can you covert an R32's AC from r12 to r134 if the compressor/hoses etc are still all good? Pretty sure on my car the AC was degassed when it was imported  to remove the naughty r12 and save the ozone layer, and the fancy climate control system just blew air around. Was happy to drive the car with windows down back then, but now I am old and need to be kept cool
    • Just to circle back here, I've sold my automatic trans to another Stagea owner in OH.
