Hi guys,

I need some help with Cams for my car - and what better place to ask than the collective wisdom of SAU?!

Here's a list of the parts fitted that matters;

-Rb26 head

-RB30 bottom

-Motor is fully built

-Head ported

-Tomei type A springs (happy to change if required)

-Adj cam gears

-Cam baffles

-Oil return from head etc

So, with that said the turbo setup is pretty basic;

-HKS GT-RS's

-Cleaned up stock manifolds

-Either R33 GTR, Xforce, Tomei or HKS dumps (just waiting to pickup R33 dumps and measure size then will go with largest)

-3.5 zorst

-"Highflow" cat

So the question is, what cams should i get? Im not fussed about a lumpy idle or anything like that - i just want the best suited Cams for the job.

The car is used for hillclimbs, trackdays and generally that sort of thing

All help is appreciated :D

For drop ins, tomei poncams 260 9.15mm.

If you go bigger, head off to machine head for lobe clearance, different springs.

I guess you could also check the dyno outputs in forced induction thread.

Cheers.

if it was me i'd probaly go with something along the lines of tomie 260 or 270's 10.25's

from memory tomei rate the type A springs to 8500rpm and 10.8mm lift

as for the dumps.. i cant see factory r33 dumps being better than any that you've listed.. i believe nismoid has a set of trust dumps for sale that would suit the job quite well in my opinion

Not sure about the cams, but if you've machined the head go for the bigger ones, nothing says i love you more than a gtr with a lumpy idle :blink:

i think i am going to go a similar direction when i eventually get my motor built.

as for the dumps. go for Tomei they are the biggest out of the lot and dont have the split merge

p.s. did you ever get that bonnet sorted out?

i was quite suprised by the new greddy procams i fitted to the drift car i wanted something fairly small so went 264 duration with only 9.7mm lift and a fairly tight 110 lobe separation (stock base circle too)

peak torque of 537nm @ 4600

You've got a big single turbo on there yeah?

Fairly small its only a K5-660R with a #7 housing which is very restrictive, will play with the #9 later this year which should see 400rwkw for calder drag nights..
