hey guys, i have an RB20 with a TR43 (440hp/20psi) strapped on and ready to make some power.

it's time to tune and i've decided thoroughly to go with a remap to keep everything looking standard (aftermarket ecu info not needed/wanted, thanks).

the usual mods include full exhaust, cooler, boost cont, gtr injectors, bosch 019, z32 afm, hd clutch etc.. everything is setup not to max out before the turbo.

what i'm wanting to know is:

#1: what is a remap worth these days? i got quoted $950 from one place and $780 from another, both in melbourne. does this sound right? i've always been under the impression through reading on the forums that remaps cost ~$500-600? (note that this is the first tune from factory maps)

#2: is there anything that i should get before the tune that may help the tune? eg; adjustable fuel reg? (also, the car will have cam gears installed before the tune)

#3: who has had experience with the turbotech manual boost controllers at high boost? at 15psi mine runs fine and doesn't spike at all, but i plan to bring it between 18psi and 19psi (turbo has a 15psi actuator). i don't really want to get an electronic module because i'm trying to keep everything looking as factory as i can.

#4: any extra info i need to know about remaps? experiences?

thanks :P

$950 for a remap is a ripoff...get dr drift to do it...

With GTR injectors an adjustable fuel reg is not needed...

Before the tune just give the car a service especially the plugs to make sure all is in order...clean the afm too...

Finally...the turbotech is fine...i ran mine on my old 32 @19psi and was making 237rwkw...

Hey man

Good to see your getting it tuned soon, keen to see the results

Get Trent from Status Tuning to hook you up with a REMAP and tune, he does awesome work and his tuning is spot on! He tuned my R32 for the last time and I finally got the results I wanted, set up the cam gears as well although I was running a PFC but that shouldn't matter

Fuel reg you won't need, Bosch pump and GTR injectors will flow plenty. Z32 is probably not needed either but can't hurt to have it, I would definitely go the cam gears; they help heaps and are a worthy upgrade

There is another place down in Springvale that's called Springy Motors, they do great tuning also and do remaps as well. Few people I know have got there car tuned there and were very happy with the tuning

TURBOTECH will be fine as long as its set up properly, I ran it on like 15psi on my external gate setup with a 8psi spring and it held reasonably well.. better than my AVCR I reckon lol

Let me know how you go

Yeah i do remaps for the Rb20 for $700 drive in drive out. $950 is a bit rich. Should be an easy setup considering your mods, im not a fan of the hypergear stuff but maybe they have got them sorted now.

oh yeah regardless of where you take it save your money and take abu's advice and forget the FPR.

Hi m8 I got a remap from Dr Drift I drove all the way from Syd to Melb

to get it done he is really that good.Im a mechanic buy trade and he

would be 1 of the very few I would let touch my car. From memory it

cost me around the $600 dollar mark for a remap and dail in the cam

gears. The car is so much better buy far the best thing I have done to

my car,its so much easier to drive on the trottle both on the track and

highway and I slashed my lap times by just under 1.5 seconds

Cheers

i was a bit worried about the boost controller spiking, but it never spiked on me at 15PSI.

yeah i can't wait for the results either! i've had this turbo on for ages while modding up all the last necessary parts needed before tuning.

hopefully i can push to 250rwkw, but we'll see how it goes.

i only thought about getting an adj fuel reg for precision tuning for the fuel system, but if it's not a need then i won't bother with it. i maxed out at 210rwkw @ 15psi because of the standard afm, so the z32 was needed.

i'll consider taking my car to you, but i'm still deciding and evaluating.

everyone i know with a hypergear turbo hasn't had any problems. the owner tao is also a great guy who will go out of his way to help his customers.

thanks for your reply. i've heard good things about sam's tuning, so i will also consider him.

If you are in Melbourne try Dr.drift. My R33 was tuned there with stock AFM and injectors running a TR43 on 14psi made 235rwkws with a Nistune chip (think it is what they called). Very happy with the power and response. Paid $650 all up.
