so tonight i had the unpleasant experience of someone attempting to steal my car, and it's raising a few questions about car security.

i'm going to install an alarm system on thursday into the car, and i've spent the better part of my afternoon cleaning the garage to get it in there with the other car. But i'm also looking to install a killswitch, and one idea i did have was to get a button installed inside the cigarette lighter unit (have never used a cigarette lighter in the car in my life) im just wondering if anyone would have the patience to give me a run down on how i would achieve such a thing, or point me in the direction to do it.

If i were you I would now look for another spot. You just told everybody where that one is.

+1 for that...

idea is that only YOU know where it is... lol i have 1 installed in my car... hidden ofcourse... but instead of using a switch i used a coded magnet. sensor behind the dash (cannot see) which switches some relays which is wired into the car...

Remember with kill switches, it should not be wired in somewhere easy to find (i mean the location of the wire-cut, as well as the switch), such as under the steering wheel. If you drop that panel and see two wires, its easy to bypass your kill switch. You want to spend some serious time pulling apart your car, and find a loom which is usually very hard to get to, and join your switch in there.

it does not matter where you place that kill switch, as long as an experience car theif can get behind your ignition wiring loom, he can steal/overide it.

What i would recommend, do a switch for your fuel pump.

also if you want a switch for your ignition (similar to what alarm system do) cut the ignition power or ignition start wire and take a section out and re run it so it is not easy to find (ie easy to hot wire) , then run a relay with a switch for it.

there are so many ways that you could do it... just make sure that you do your research before hand ie. wiring diagrams, advice from other SAU'ers, etc and be patient... dont get excited thinking that ur gonna cut all these wires and its just gonna work. plan what you want to do, get all ur parts (switches, cable, relays, etc) then give urself a free day and do it... there is no need to rush it cuz if u do, ur heaps more likely to fu*k it up...
