those ones in glen iris have been there for about 3 weeks.

can anyone confirm seeing an operator/supervisor near by? because i've been past them at night and they seem deserted

As you can see from the pic I upped, I pulled up in front of the tripod for 5mins to see what would happen. Would have loved to take a kip for 1/2hr, but had to get back to the office. I didn't see anyone approaching and although there were a couple of cars around, no one was in them and the cars didn't look stereotypical of what I thought they might. ie new cars.

The car mounted cameras were $80k each and I'm guessing these setups must be worth $40+k, if not more. Therefore I would expect someone to be in close proximity.

I wouldn't be suprised if those camera's auto-snap pics if you get within, say, 3m of it as a self preservation exercise.

since the government is all about getting money rather than stopping assaults and burglaries and all that other shit....im thinking of doing a homer simpson, and starting up a "people's police" - think i should look at the law first though before i do that

nothing new. I deployed over 5000+ similar units to HK police about 5 years ago which were a handhold unit mounted on a tripod of the car with radar and camera in one unit. This was 5 years ago, so they should be much better now and probably are rolling video with frame capture like most of the newer fixed cameras. no doubt they use a wireless backhaul and leave no images on the unit - thats what i would do.

just don't speed, pretty simple.

once they go into full action no doubt they will be mounted on top of a pole, unless they are going to replace the current car mounted ones which not doubt will still have some one within line of site.

Also as far as i know to get fined by a camera you need to have a detected speed of 8+ over and radar is 6+ over, was told this a while ago and the only person who has been fined below this was a friend who got done doing 6 over by a camera, but there is no guarantee that he wasnt just looking at the alledged speed not the detected speed.

These are black ops speed cameras

Note the section on SA speed cameras

Just wait till someone dumps a pail of whatever liquid into the bin and let's see what kind of pictures can those speed cameras take.

i work at a landfill i might talk to some truckies .... get the to use there bin grabber early one morning .. and just pluck it up from the side of the road .. and keep going ... be perfect and no one would know .. in about 4hours after that we would have burried it in like 85tones of more rubbish and building scrap

That's the sh!t, right there.

I love ur evil mind.

Now put ur mind to learning to frive a 6wheel articulated vehicle and not rolling it! :nyaanyaa:

fixed speed is based on a percentage of the limit. I wont tell you what it is, but I know and this hasn't changed for some time.

The point of this device would be mobility, so I doubt they are going on poles.

Get a 4wd and just drive over it and keep going

If the baseball bat or the 4wd are doing more than the speed limit, the camera should take just one LAST pic shouldn't it?

They stopped using that a few years ago, it was all over the media at the time because they were bringing in a law that stated you could get done for doing 5k's over in any zone, hence the wipe off 5 campaign, the % use to be 10% but when they brought in the 5k rule there was a huge uproar because by australian standards a new car is allowed to have a speedo that is out by 10%, so you could buy a new car get out on the freeway and be done for speeding within the first 10 minutes of buying a brand new car, there is also a page around that documents a SA minister making public in parliament how much you can go over before being fined in vic.

Who cares if it is 'legit'

I've parked infront of the parked car speed camera's before (was near where i was staying).

Stuff em.

The dude came out and said he was trying to operate a speed detection device and i was in his camera's line which affected it.

I said, ye i know, and asked if i could move it, i said nup. Went inside :thanks:

He also said it took a little while to setup etc

So must have been a pain in the ass :P

I recall you smoke screening one years back too.... Not sure itf all the smoke was coming out the exhaust of the pintara though.....

That's gold

These are being "tested" around Dandenong at the moment... ...One person/car can operate up to four "devices" at once...

One day last week they were all over the Westal Rd Ext... ...The crazy thing is they can hide them behind crash rails and you don't see them until the last moment...

I saw one of these getting on the freeway from Dynon Rd a couple of nights ago - I go WTF is that?? very sneaky indeed - imagine pulling over and pinching it just for kicks...there would be someone sitting in a car nearby so something like that doesn't happen

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
