A few weeks ago i was in the city with 2 mates. I was pulling a U turn down a side street and kicked the back out.. (minor burnout - mininal smoke), when out of nowhere came 2 under cover cop cars. I pulled over straight away and they came up to the window and said 'how stupid do you feel?' they told me to get out and told my mates to sit in the car.

The officer proceded to ask me what mods i had to the car. I said, umm just the pod filter. She replied 'what about your blow off valve??' at this point i thought ok.. she aint to stupid then. She told me not to move and she went around the whole car and asked if i had declaired the mods with the RTA and she looked at my rego sticker and she said that i hadnt?? i dunno how she knew that??!

but then she said cause it was an unregistered vehicle then it would be impounded for 3 months.. i went to court to fight the burnout charge and got off with just a $200 fine and nothing else.. but now the cops are tellin me that i cant get the car back unless i get a letter from the magistrate stating that i can get my car back before the probationary 3 month period is up.. so im left carless...

anyone else had this problem?

Ps they got me for ..

bald tyres

BOV

Pod filter

tinted windows

dvd player

exhaust

carless and careless mate I have no sympathy really.... it was stupid what you did I do this shit too sometimes dude in the right circumstances and quiet areas but if I was caught I would accept and move on till that day I get her back.

If I had my car done for that I would tell them to chat to the workshop when it was imported and passed and then the RTA because I had a random pit inspection when I was regoing it and it was passed to be road worthy... f**kn cops sometimes mate. BUT there are good cops who I love and respect. as for the dilemma mate take it on the chin cant f**k the the system too much

No sympathy from me dude...Driving like that in the city. Bald tyres..What were thinking???....Katching!!! Reputation of Skyline owners just dropped another level...

Its guys like you that make it worse for guys like me who now 'where' and 'where not' to have fun...

she said that the dvd player was illegal.. even tho it doesnt play dvd's when the car is on..

also i am coping everything that has been thrown my way. i admitted what i did was stupid and thats y they have taken my car away.

the car is registered but because i had the mods the cop told me by looking at my rego sticker that i hadnt declaired them with the rta then it was unregistered? so i assume that when u mod your car u get a new rego sticker? is this right?

and even ppl replied and just said that they do burnouts.. so everyone who has a skyline who does do burnouts and get away with them is just lucky. if u do one and are unlucky and get caught like i did then u cop what i am coping. it will be a matter of time before other ppl get caught in an unlucky situation and have their car taken too..

Burnouts in the city...not a smart idea. You get what you deserve. Sux you got caught though.

In regards to that rego sticker thing...I've never heard anything about any difference in rego stickers in regards to normal mods. Sounds like the cops made it up.

Mate you were in the city!! How many pedestrians were around when you did it?? There is a time and a place for having fun...and yes you are copping it good..hope you learn from this...

Your car is no unregistered just the fact that the mods arent engineered meaning they are illegal. When you engineer your mods it ads a bit of text (cant remember exactly what) onto your rego label which is what she would of been looking for.

To be perfectly honest I do some stupid things (burnouts, drifting) on the street too, but come on dude there's a time and place! Even if you walk through the city you see the insane amount of cops absolutely everywhere pulling over Uleh in his Pulsar with his 20 inch chromies and 9 inch cannon dragging along the road. They're absolutely everywhere. City is the one place I would definitely not go drifting/do burnouts. There are some cool corners though...

first of all he isnt asking for sympathy or people telling him how stupid he is he knows he did something silly so get over yourselve's....

if the police said get a letter from the magistrate to get it out early, then do that its not hard... also i thought u got a warning then 2nd time its impounded?..

The only illegal thing about DVD players is if they are playing DVDs while the car is in motion. This is normally fixed by attaching a cable to the handbrake.

There's very few laws against TVs these days, that's why every new car has them in the headrests, footwells, sidewalls of the tyres etc...

    • looking forward to your t56 swap man its a game changer if it works!
    • So, when are you trying the new GR86 or BRZ?
    • Uncle Duncan Yeap, FI Interchiller  Works well, normal IAT's cruising with the WTA only went from 50°c+ to 25-30°c with the interchiller  Before, when on it hard, the IAT would see 80-90°c, now, the highest has been was around 38°c IIRC IAT is measured under the blower hat I recommend it for the street or strip where your only on it hard for 10 or so seconds, but it wouldn't be efficient for sustained track use as it would heat soak from the AC turning off or whatever it does during WOT to protect the compressor It really needs the AC running for it to not heat soak and keep the WTA coolant chilled My WTA coolant temps when just cruising is around 2°c
    • Hey Mark...sorry to interrupt your career change to hair dressing... but...did you ever fit the interchiller to the commodore, and if so how was it? And, who made it?
    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
