I have a couple of plates in Oz for the GTR and was wondering what you guys thought they would be worth, if anything at all.

I dont want to say which states ive got them in, but i do have R35 and GTRR35

Ive had the plates for a year now and the R35 is due to come out pretty soon so im looking to find them a home at some point seeing as i dont have the dosh to buy the real thing...:thanks:

Yeah i can understand that.

My old man has them in his possession atm - im in Tokyo, but he was just on the blower giving me some pretty heavy estimates according to industry pro's - hes been dealing with motors nation wide for as long as i can remember too...

But yeah...dunno. :thanks:

personally I wouldn't pay anything for one. but sadly there are some really stupid people out there so you may actually make some money on them. pretty poor way to make some cash though. about on par with ticket scalping...

P.plates are annoying, even Jeremy Clarkson hates them and he's the reincarnation of Jesus himself

But you'll find some guy with more money than sense, who wants to buy it, I'd estimate probably a few grand, say $5k maybe

So i shouldnt buy the plates cause i dont have an R35?

mate, people who buy up number plates they have no intention of ever using then attempt to flog them for a huge percentage profit are basically scalpers. they deny someone to buy what they want at the normal price, instead they get in first then charge a massive amount for something that cost them very little. I didn't say you shouldn't buy them because you don't have an R35 but explain to me how this dubious practice is any different to ticket scalping. it's a pretty low way to turn a quid.

anyway you asked a question and I gave my answer and my opinion for free. anyone with more sense than money wouldn't bother but luckily for you there is bound to be at least one person out there with more cash than brains and they might give you some money for them. maybe this awesome plan really will make you rich and happy...

I dont see how thats dubious at all.

You could say that about anything. So many people buying things they will never use, clothing, accessories, etc etc and selling them to people for a profit...

If it makes you feel better, friends and family are going to use the plates. Maybe ill hold onto them until i can export my own GTR in the next couple of years under PI rules.

Look what Single digit plates sell for, for example. Its big business. Morally speaking, i dont have a problem with it and im not looking to get "rich". As far as im concerned its an opportunity i couldnt pass up.

Adam, there are so many more lucrative ways to make easy money by leveraging the power of the internet, why on earth would you be so naive to think that buying custom plates with a view to making money could possibly be a worthwhile venture?

Obviously the choice is yours, but I think the idea is ridiculous and personally I reckon its more likely you will lose money from this exercise rather than making any.

Then again, maybe im wrong, maybe you will make a killing and be able to pay off the loan on your Forester and retire early :(

Well, for one the car will pay for itself and roll into the next one - the evo wagon.

And who wouldnt want to retire as early as possible unless you fancy spending the next 50 years working...

Besides, Id like to see how this goes...i think the couple of hundred it costs to keep the plates over the course of a year is nothing really so there is no loss, so to speak. And its not like there are going to be an avalanche of people buying R35's so.,..

At the very least itll make a good bar or bedroom ornament. :P

Now, what is this "leveraging" you speak of?

Department of Planning and infrastructure (Sp?) has banned such plates due to IP.

Yup, thats right WA law makers were sued, change of law happened in March, all new plates need to be vetted by the car companies now prior to issue..... Can you believe that.... IP on a plate....

wrong mate - current record up here is now 55 million Dhs ($18million AUD) for the Fujairah plates "1" bought for the Pegaso Bugatti Veyron (1250 HP Veyron), owned by a Ukrainian oil merchant who lives at the burj al arab (worlds largest hotel - hes paying $20,000USD per night for a room).

Abu Dhabi "1" plates put on an orange Pagani Zonda F was thought to be the most expensive after an auction as this was a public listing - the Pegaso Veyron plates were private sale.

Plates here are ridiculous - the Veyron cost 5 million DHs here - the plates were 55 million. 11x the amount of the car for PLATES.

in Dubai good plates cost more than the car...

like many of the people in this thread - i think its hte biggest waste of money in the world...

      In my case, the standard wheel I had was in good condition but the buttons had more wear, so I swapped them across from the original wheel from the car. The plastic rear cover is held on by 4 tabs, and once the wiring is removed you can get access to 2 screws on each side the hold the buttons in From there I just swapped the wiring over. What was interesting is the standard style wheel is 2.0kg but the carbon fibre one is 50% heavier at 2.9kg. It even has a weight inside the wheel at the top to make up for some sort of imbalance in the design. weird

      Once the airbag is off, to remove the steering wheel.... Undo the 2 plugs into the clock spring, and the horn connector from it's clip. Hit the 19mm nut with a rattle gun (preferably) or if you don't' have one, you probably want an assistant to hold the wheel in place while you use a breaker bar to undo the nut Then, screw the nut back on 3 turns, and pull the wheel sharply towards you. If that doesn't work hit it medium force with a rubber mallet on either side, or possible behind if you can get there. If that all fails (it shouldn't!) you might need a steering wheel puller

      So, to next task....the carbon fibre steering wheel was either an expensive factory option or a chinesium special. Either way, I don't like either the flat bottom or thick ring style, so it had to go So...to remove the steering wheel.... First, disconnect battery negative and stomp on the brake pedal for a few seconds. Then, remove the small circular covers on each side of the wheel's rear surround to uncover the airbag clips. You need to push something like a flat bladed screw driver through, to push the steel clip inwards and pull the side of the airbag forward. Once you've done the easy side, same on the centre console side. You can see the tab you are shooting for circled in red Then, disconnect the horn spade connector and for the yellow airbag plug you need to get something small under the black locking tab to pop it out, then the connector releases......airbag is off
