Hi guys, so my factory fan decided to mimic a nissan patrol and sound like some kind of stupidly big turbo...silly fan!

anyway... i thought this was a good opportunity to try a thermo fan... had heard the help the engine rev better and whatnot...this is obvious.

ok so my findings so far:

1. the thermo fan i bought (calibre from supercheap, 16" baby) is a perfect fit fo the radiaotr, same height and all and slightly bigger than factory fan.

one to note though...there is no way in the world this fan or any thermo fan would ever move as much air as the factory clutch fan...the blades are smaller and the pitch is not even close...but thats ok, we'll deal with it.

2. when wiring the kit up they fail to mention you still need a thermo switch to make it all work, no i didnt have one and wanted this thing in now...so i found out via this forum you can use the temp switch at the bottom of the radiator. this does not work with the factory switch as i found out thet when it closes its circuit, only 300mV comes out the other side of it, even though 12V is present on the other side...so what i did is run the relay trip wire from the AC thermo fan and now both fans will always come on together...

now this switch does trigger the AC thermo fan when the temp gets around 93/94 deg whcih is where the temp gets to now with the thermo fan installed.

3. what i plan on doing is installing a tridon temp switch in the bottom of the radiator replacing the current one, but the new one will trig at 85deg i think...

4. the only major problem i have now is that when the fan(s) come on the currant drops in the car and all the lights dim and the revs drop a little....a bit fustrating. reset the PFC and all (relearn idle procedure, same tune) hopefully it wont be as bad once i change the switch over and only one fan comes on etc.

5. can disconnect the cable that normally comes out from the switch at the bottom of the radiator so that it exclusivly trigs the large thermo fan i installed???

does anyone else have any experiences/tips from the world of thermo fans and loosing the clutch fan?!?!?

one very big important point...

the car perfoms so much better and the response is awesome, its a very big difference loosing the factory fan!!!

if a car is sitting idling with no air flow passing the radiator the thermostats not goin to hold temp at any degree, it will just keep rising as the engine gets hotter. what he was sayin is the temp switch that triggers the thermo fans is at 93/94 deg.

i have just installed twin 10" thermos in my r33 gtr but along with an 3 core big alloy radiator and i have it just on a switch in the cabin for now, but they make a differance in response wouldnt be big but can be noticed and the sound is alot better it dosnt sound like the engine is going to lift off at 8000rpm,

with the light dimming issue well you should have looked at the power it pulls before you bought and compaire differnt fans and the air flow of them the good ones will tell you the mass air volume they push/pull, as some cheaper fans its like turning ya AC on they drain that much power, do ya research first ppl.

TiTan what are you using to trig the thermos on or are they on all the time?

i just bought my tridon thermo fan switch to put at the boottom of the radiaotr...on at 85deg, off at 80deg...

i will wire that to the new thermo fan only andnot the AC condensor fan, hopefully with both fans comming on and off the current drain may not be as bad!

dude did you read the post??? last part...have a look...

BIG difference!

lol, thats the only thing i was looking for. Mustve been late for me

Thats good, always curious about that. I guess you just lowered the inertia. Good stuff

Cheers

D

have you changed that sensor? how did you wire it in and did you reconnect the factory plug as well for the ACthermo fan???

i haven't changed the sensor and don't remember off the top of my head which wire the relay is attached to, the AC thermo fan has been removed from my car.
