LotusGTR
I know it aint an M3 but I drove the 335i a couple of weekends ago. Took it way for a weekend. Also drive the 135i. Both boring as bat shit and not worth the money. GTR makes you feel alive. The BMW makes you feel like your dad. Get a GTR and a reasonable daily driver like a GTI Golf. When a stock car is very refined it can feel kinda boring to drive. You sorta loose that 'Raw' power feeling and realised that you have hit 100km/h when it doesnt even feel like it. GTR-N1
BMW Drivers' Club will have their big BM Display at Burwood Park to-day. That's Burwood NSW. Entry via Comer St. Starts at 7.30am. Judging starts at 10.30am. Display finishes at 4pm. Actually, I'll enjoy having a squizz at their 1960s bubble car/mushroom car as well as the M3s! A lot of reviews find that a std r34 GTR is slow and does not live up to expectation and tramlines all over the place. the 135i and 335i on paper have a better engine than the rb26. 400nm from around 2500rpm (GTR is around 4000rpm), 3L TT, 225kw at a lower rpm than the gtr. the 135i also has better brakes std, is lighter, but with the same wheel base as the gtr. scathing
I dont see how being RWD makes it better. In the wet, its not. Depends on your definition of better In the snow, ditto. It doesn't really snow in Australia. GTR sounds amazing with the right zorst...although i prefer the rasping, manic 3,2 litre... I don't think I've heard an M3 I like (I've heard an E30 Evo 2, E36, E46 M3 and CSL). Too rattly, especially at low RPM. I'd love to hear the V8 though. Johnny
I posted my opinions on both before but i thought id add one last thing the gtr is not a good cruiser, the combination of engine torque, awd, race suspension and 4 hard/fat tyres makes the car difficult to keep straight, i think they call it 'torque steer' Basically any bumps, cracks, creases or cambers on the road; you must make constant adjustment to the steering wheel to drive in a straight line, I have to keep both hands on the steering wheel to be comfortable. It was a complaint most automotive journalists had with the ford focus rs and its front differential. I will say this though; a basic modded GTR with exhaust, air intake, 1bar of boost and power fc tune will destroy an m3. As i have driven the m3 for a long period i must say it dosent come anywhere near the violence of the GTR. Johnny
Lolz autocorrect is soooo annoying. not bad avatar huh! In 03 i couldnt afford a brand new m3 so i bought a 325i instead and i must say it was the best car i have ever owned; balance of quality, comfort and design. m3gtr: you forgot to add the rest of my quote; the car reacts to bumps, creases and cambers on the road. I doubt i used the correct wording like 'torque steer' but its my impression. 06tst
Admittedly, across the whole BMW range, they sell far more Autos than other transmissions; but...Why oh why do they sell so many SMGs? 'Pretend' driving enthusiasts? Motoring Editors have even picked this up too! They already have a vagueness of steering compared with the GTRs... So why have a box that really isn't suited to Mac Pass driving. I'd have to go for the manual and nothing else if I hade an M3. Tez Then would R35 GTR owners be pretend driving enthusiasts aswell? The SMG M3's are pretty good... the launch feature is awesome. I have two mates with Supercharged M3's... one been an SMG. Even though it can be quite costly to modify, they can get great numbers. The built quality of their motors is second to none. One of my mates is puting out around 540hp at the wheels on C16 and nitrous. Best pass of 11.4 secs on semis. He has been to countless track days and drag runs and flogs the living hell out of it. Never has problems with motor or box... touch wood. Definately gets more looks than a r34 gtr and will wipe the smile off your face when he dusts you in a modded GTR... trust me I know. Just food for thought. Heres some videos of it in action... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=loz%27s+m3 Edited September 23, 2008 by 06tst Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236187-m3-vs-r34gtr/page/3/#findComment-4150622 Share on other sites
