What are the advanages/disadavantages of the VI-Pec over both the microtech and haltech?

Well for starters the microtech's i have used over all the years never had simple features like interpolation (new one might ? ) between load cells etc poor resolution and various other things which make it a truly budget ECU (great for rotors though) To be the microtech is the last resort.....

the haltech and VIPEC can honestly go head to head with tuneabilty and both give great results.

I also suggest you have a discussion with him regarding the product as its far more than a rebadged Link as you may be incorrectly suggesting.

I would also like to know what the differance is between the v88 and the link g4 xtreme? 100% the same features/software, differant name and about 2 months more bit at the market by the looks.

Look at the pics some of the plugins on the vipec site they have "link g4" covered over on the pcb !

I wouldn't call it "far more" than a rebadged link!

Also his efforts of trying to say that Autronic has a timing problem is a joke. Money making at its best.

BUT MY VOTE GOES TO HALTECH

I've ran both Mircotrech LTX-8 and Haltech EK6 on the same car, Haltech takes it hands down due to pure smooth drivability.

Microtechs I think are better suited for race applications. On Full Throttle they do good. Anything, sush as coasting, changing throttle (traffic conditions), they just lacking the mapping resolution to give a smooth ride. You'll find the car jolting and jumping on and off throttle. Not to mention cold starting and idling imperfecitions.

The haltech on the other hand handles all these elements effortlessly. Driving the haltech almost feels like driving a tune smoother than that of factory, with the bonus of complete modification control.

hey your actually on subject! lol yeah cheers mate. was pretty sure that was the case as ive heard it before, just wanted to see what the rest of the world thinks before i forked out the cash, got the haltech on order anyways. cheers.

i've had great results with haltech, will be putting an e11v2 on the gtr and an e6x on the supra.

vipec is by one of the guys from autronic, or a distributor, or something isn't he? i can't think of the guy's name now, but he was in with autronic and then split i think, just like the autronic/motec story all those years back...

Seriously though, im struggling to understand what you are all on about the microtech being such a bad ECU for a daily driven car. Mine is absolutely fine!! Who are you getting to tune these microtechs! Or are you talking about the older models or something? Just yeah no idea what the whole "needing to retune them", "car running rough" etc etc.....

Fair enough it's obviously not the best ECU, but for a street driven car, it does the job. Just because you guys might tune them and go on about some technical crap about the features in mapping or something, most people wouldn't know the difference anyway so what does it matter other then to the person that's actually tuning it?

The fact is that for ANY ecu your gonna get people saying "Ive got one and its fine and i love it!"

You'll also find that for most products, a few complaints will surface here and there.

The importance lies in the second point, take note of how many horror stories tally up for certain products, and it would make sense go for one that has a much higher satisfaction rating across the board.

In regards to the microtech, I used one, but ended up changing to an FC. On the microtech i had NO problems with smoothness, throttle response idling or anything, and when i changed to the FC you wouldnt have been able to tell the difference.

Thats when the microtech was working.. I got rid of it as it kept leaving me stranded coz it wouldnt start, after returning it to get checked out and got the all clear, the tune was out and the rev limiter seemed to have been removed ;) then it left me stranded one more time and got rid of it.

i have no doubt a microtech can get you the power and get it smoothly, but why take a risk when there are so many that say avoid it. I heard the complaints and still went for it, could have saved a lot of headache. My 2c
