Just wanted to clear up an issue I have recently came across and hopefully help out others in the same position.

Saturday just gone I was pulled over in my R32 GTS4 and defected for my front ride height being too low - ride height being the distance between the centre of the wheel cap to the bottom of the wheel arch.

The cop quoted the requirement for an R32 turbo as 360mm all round, leaving me a good 20-30mm too low at the front. It was recommended by a mechanic that I get confirmation from regency about ride height as he thought I looked alright.

Official ride height issued regency -

Front: 345mm

Rear: 355mm

Not the 360mm all round as suggested by the issuing cop!

At this stage I was a bit peeved that I got defected for something that did not exist???? Got onto the police and they were unable to say where the first cop cop his measurements from. Long story short a cop came to my place and remeasured by height and ended taking off my sticker - no longer defected!

For any defect I would suggest contacting regency yourself and asking for official confirmation on all info regarding your defect. Could save a lot of time, hassle and money!

Regency is the suburb location of Motor Reg where defects are inspected/cleared. South Aussy's have always called 'that' location Regency.

I might have to give them a buzz as 360mm ride hight sucks. I want to drop mine slightly.

Mine with std suspension was 355 front and 360rear full tank of fuel.

also look at the rulings. might be a diff ride height from turbo and non turb cars. as well as the pre 1990 models maybe different too.

ring vehical standards and ask for clinton 1300 882 248. he is a good bloke that is rather cluey. ive delt with himmany of times and always came out with a good result.

woh, im surprised they didnt come to urs and double defect u for other stuff

Damn that cop to hell. If it's your job to dispense the law - you have to know it. Quite simply that cop is an idiot. Unfortunately idiot cops are the norm nowdays.

I'm not sure.. I believe the minority of police spoil it for the minority. Much like the minority of import drivers spoil it for the majority in the public eye.

Today for example.. Police usually don't blink an eye but today just one little fat dude in an under cover car decides to stare as he drives past while I'm sitting at a round about.

Car doesn't look modified; 100% stock from the outside so really no reason. I haven't had that for quite some time. The last time I remember being stared at was a good few years ago.

He was probably one of the gtr bathurst haters. :)

SUSPENSION

Transport SA

September 2003 Modifications to Passenger Cars, Car Type Utilities and Panel Vans Page 15 of 25

A vehicle's suspension system has been designed for adequate strength and durability as well as its level of ride,

comfort and handling. It is acceptable to fit upgraded springs, shock absorbers or anti-rollbars provided they

are correctly fitted and suitable for the vehicle. Some vehicle manufacturers have optional suspension

equipment available.

When lowering a vehicle body, either front or rear, the limiting factor is the clearance between the rubber bump

stop and the corresponding metal stop. This dimension must not be reduced by more than one third of that

specified by the manufacturer.

Transport SA has a list of acceptable suspension and eyebrow heights (the measurement from the centre of the

wheel vertically upward to the edge of the mudguard) for most passenger vehicles and can be contacted to

verify if the ride height of a vehicle is within acceptable limits.
