Whilst talking to someone about the stagea suspension.. and how hard mine was..it was sugested that I consider going to a larger diameter/profile tyre to get a better ride..the car allready has 235/40/18's which by an online calculator are larger than the original 205/55/16's... another size up would be 245/45/18..I am tempted to try this..so..I am wondering if anyone else has ever tried this on a vehicle or has any thoughts...I know it will gear the car lower and make the speedo go out (it's allready out by almost 10kph at 100kph)...but if they are the only effects then I may consider doing this.

205/55/16=631.69mm

235/40/18=645.16mm

245/45/18=677.67mm

If a better ride is what you are after, maybe think about going down to 17" rims. You will get the sidewall you are after but keep in mind the trade off in handling accuracy. I have NFI about tyre clearances with the 18" rims, but I can't imagine you will have a whole lot of room left in the wheel tub. Offsets may need to be looked at for proper suspension clearances.

yer my speedo is out a bit too, RS4 s S2, driving along the highway at 90 km/h i went past a speedo reading thing... "you speed is 82km/h" ...........methinks old mate in japan has had some LARGE rims/tyres on it, and adjusted the speedo to suit.... i went to get new tyres put on, and stupidly got told they were the right size...... Doh! forgot bout the tyre thing on the drivers door....

isn't the standard tyre size for s2's something like 225/50? it should be written in the bottom of the driver door opening ie. just down next to the seat...

All the Stageas I have tried have been 3% to 5% optimistic in their speedo readings .eg; speedo reads 100 kph, actually doing 95 kph When the tyres wear, the tread depth reduces, the overall diameter decreases and the error can be as much as 5% more. eg; speedo reads 100 kph, actually doing 90 kph.

Larger diameter tyres reduce the error, so I aim for 4% larger diameter tyres than standard to reduce the speedo error. It's not as easy as it sounds, since every tyre manufacturer seems to have a different idea of what size a tyre is. eg; In Yokohama A032 a 235/40/17 is 239 mm wide and a 245/45/17 is 242 mm wide, so a supposed 10 mm wider tyre is actually only 3 mm wider. Obviously this affects the profile height by the same ratio. So it always pays to check the manufacturers actual diameter and not rely on mathematics.

Like a GTR and a GTS4, the 4wd Stageas MUST have the same diameter tyres front and rear, otherwise you will get severe transmission shudder and extreme ATTESA clutch pack wear.

Cheers

Gary

has anyone mentioned checking your spring rates? if they are not standard springs perhaps they put ones in that are the wrong rating..

if they are all standard then yea.. I would go smaller rim and stick 50 series on there

that does give you a lot more cushioning..

Im running the factory Series 2 RS Four S 17inch rims on mine and it recomends that u run 225/50/17's which is written inside the drivers door. So if ur running 18's you should be using 40series. Another thing uve got to watch out for that caught me out is the space saver spare tyre in the boot. When i bought my stagea, i was the first person to own it in australia and it had 225/40/17's and i got a flat so i had to put on my space saver and that was 60 series 16inch which was designed to go with the specified 50 series 17inch which through my attesa system way out of wack and it was reading on the torque gauge that front torque was being applied all the time. Not good for the attesa system. Something to keep in mind anyway when ur trying to decide what size tyres to go with!!!!

My brother has 20s on his Stagea, the ride in his car is better then my 33 which only has 18s. Fitting 17s will soften the ride, but you will get more flex in the tyre wall, + 17s on a Stagea look a little small (IMO).

If you want a smoother ride I would agree with ssshonky and look into spring rates, or even your shocks may be set to hard.

Good point. I've been worried about the size of the spare for awhile now. Running 235/45/17's and if i ever have a flat the space saver won't do very well until i fix the blowout. Been toying with the idea of getting a cheap 17" rim to chuck in the back... wonder if it's fit the spare tyre well... (sorry for hijack!)

    • Starting with issues 1 - 5, we have already run into a problem...!  Issue #4 contained 2x front brake calipers, instead of 1 caliper and 1x steering knuckle. Will have to call DeAgostini on Monday to sort it out. Anyway here's some photos.  Issue #1 is the front bumper, headlights and number plate. Issue #2 is the front wheel (with "We produced with spartan air." text on the centre cap!) and tyre, the front lip spoiler and cylinder head cover with ignition coils under the centre cover... which will never be seen again. Issue #3 is the bonnet and cylinder head. Issue #4 is the front strut, brake disc (with laser etched metal discs) and brake caliper. I stopped here because of the issue with the missing steering knuckle.  Next update will be #5 - #10 in a few weeks.
    • DeAgostini is one of a few companies that release quite large (the largest commonly available size actually) 1/8 scale models in a series of weekly issues over 100 - 110 instalments.  They release different models for different markets and DeAgostini Japan have release the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo last month. I've made two of these 1/8 scale sized cars (one an R35 GT-R from 2012 - 2014, the other I'm just about halfway through, a BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the 2Fast 2Furious movie) so when this R32 was announced there was no way I could ignore it as it's my favourite out of all Nissans.  Each issue costs around $20 so it costs about $2.2K when completed. I suppose it is very expensive for what it is, but the quality and details are really very good, and there are many "gimmicks" like fully functioning exterior and interior lights operated with a remote control, working steering, all doors/bonnet/boot/fuel lid open and close, the side mirrors fold in and it even has a speaker for the engine revving sounds when you turn the lights on.  Each issue comes with a magazine that tells the story of the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo from the first design stages of the BNR32 to Group A homologation and the various racing version that were run in the Japanese Group A and JGTC, and Australian Group A.  So I plan to update the build in this thread 5 issues at a time.  https://deagostini.jp/r32/?srsltid=AfmBOooKjxDc4EUK2rmXqMBPgyHfFJ24s4oEPJBNpnF-lFlsRoW0PE6P
    • As per title.. has anyone used so far? Keen to hear results, comparisons. In the market for a new mani for my new turbo. Any issues cracking?
    • Re read everything that has been written about this in this thread.. Let us know if you're still confused.
    • This would be a new pump with new gears. I'm just unclear on whether it's a good idea to run more oil pump flow if you don't actually need said flow. Oil level is set a minute or so after shutting off a warm engine so wouldn't the high RPM oil level in the sump end up lower all things equal? Plan is OEM clearances, main concern in my mind is whether the OEM pump can keep up with the flow requirements of any additional oil coolers.
