Definitive Guide To Building 300-330awkw Gt-r

Recommended Posts

hey guys, basically ive rebuild my engine bottom end similar to (piranha) , with tomei cams and gears, and im using -5s. Using the standard fuel pump, my car is about 320awkw. Im using 750cc injectors with standard rail. Sorry for this stupid questions, but :

1. With the aftermarket injectors,do u reckon i should change my stock rails?

2. Is it advisable to change to 1000cc injectors for better performance?

What else i can do to increase my power? Thank you.

p.s: this is subjective, but which is better, open pod or the stock box?i was told better to use stock box(cooler air)

cheers.

Change fuel pump to nismo or similar.

Stock rail is fine

How much power do you want will determine injector size.

Personally I would

Stick with stock airbox

How much boost you running??

Put 20+psi through them and you could get close to 380awkw with those turbos

I have so far made 420 rwkw with a standard R33 Series 3 airbox. There is nothing wrong with them.

keep the std airbox

nothing wrong with them at all.

keep the standard rail, i am using the std rail with 1000cc injectors and it works fine

i'd stick with what you've got, the only thing i would change is the fuel pump.

a bosch 040, 044 or walbro or jap (tomei, nismo) will be fine.

if you can run over 20psi, do it to really wake up the -5's

Thought id give a quick update.

I put a pair of -7s on and i love them. They just feel so good after having early nismos (especially ones that were rooted lol)

Pulled 261rwkw at 1 bar so pretty happy with that for the moment. That was with std injectors/pump/afms so next step is to upgrade those and shoot for 330rwkw.

(although i have started collecting bits for a dirty thirty conversion so may just have wait for that lol)

Cheers

Luke

Ok so I have gtss turbos, nismo pump, injectors, apexi pods or airbox with nismo filter (depending what I feel like at the time lol). Currently running a power fc d-jetro but changing to haltech platinum pro inthe next few months.

I'm looking into cams. I'm getting cam gears, doing the water pump, timing belt etc all at the same time so why not do cams lol.

I'm a bit confused on what to get.

The tomei type b 260 in/ex with 9.15 lift or

Hks 264 in/ex with 8.7 lift (other hks cams with same lift are 256 or 272).

Appreciate your input into cam selection for my set up. Please don't post dont worry about cams or there not needed lol.

My mate put his pod via a silicon joiner through the stock IC hole into where the wheel arch stock front mount is located. The difference is night and day, but what about water/mud in winter etc, do you guys see any issue in mounting it here? It seems like such a an easy and effective modification.

Edit: stock place in a GTS-T, so I guess you guys would need to make another hole, but regardless thoughts?

I'd go the tomei's, only because they have more lift and they give more torque from that compared to the HKS cams. Have driven R's with both..

Each to their own ;)

A question for the more knowledgable.

Wanting to know with a built RB26, supporting mods with -7's optimal RPM and boost setting PSI please.

Tomie Type A poncams 260 9.15

Chasing 300 or so awkws

Let me know if you need more build details

I would gone different dumps, but for 300/320awkw it's not going to make much of a difference.

24psi peak, 8000rpm will be fine. Set the limiter for 8200 or so and fit a shift light to go off at 7500rpm.

    • I did a pretty ruthless clean up before I left townsville. If it wasn't a part to suit a car I currently have it was sold or binned. I have all my stuff organised in big tubs with lids that stack from supercheap and bunnings depending on who was cheaper at the time. Parts were sorted by either chasis/motor/Fabrication/general/electrical. I have a mezzanine that's 7mx2.3m and all lives up there. Easy to access when needed and out of the way.  I also have the issue of selling and dealing with scumplace/marketbook was actually going to list stuff today but couldn't be bothered as been stuffed around too much. I generally let a few people know I want to off load stuff and people pass it on to others to contact me, generally easy sale and I'm never looking to make big dollars. Rather it gets used than go in the bin. Next clean up will be around Xmas and if doesn't go on the s15 it's going bar 2 sets of wheels.
    • Did a little bit on the V37 today. I bought this LED kit out of the US https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125953603618. Best I could find online but didn't look great, in the end the quality was pretty much right and it did come with locations for each light including rear number plate and a few spares. The factory owners' manual was also useful with information on where to pop each light out without damage. I prefer the LED look as I use it daily including at night and the LEDs are both brighter and the white light is easier to read with. Vanity mirror comparison, LEDs just look more modern The glove box was the only difficult one (and the only one that was previously blown.....), steps were Open glovebox 50% but not fully open Push up on bottom of the box to unclip it on both side, not screws or pins to remove Remove the top stays at an angle, right side then left, because.... Before dropping the glovebox totally, remove soft close clip on left Then, remove 7 screws to release the glovebox surround Twist the globe holder anti clock to release it from the surround In this case, the LED globe supplied was wider than factory and did not fit, so I ground down each side about 1mm then inserted it Last trick, start engine to check the LED polarity is correct, the globe only operates when the engine is running (whether the box is open or closed) I also moved the 4G booster and wifi across from the Fuga, a little frustrating as I could not find a good Accessories ACC source anywhere in the boot so I'll run a wire from the cabin next time I get a chance. Also, unlike the Fuga the external antenna wire does not quite fit between the rear windscreen and the body so I think I'll have to drill a hole in the roof to mount it. Probably not that interesting for most people so I'll just post once complete
    • Pretty sure I could do but it would need to be exported and reimported as the current import approval is race only. But in practice there are plenty of other practical reasons it can't be a road car despite their potential value these days like stripped interior looms, cage to cut out etc Nah, no mods to it other than updating the roll age to current regs. It makes about 350 (laggy) kilowatts on the N1s at 18psi which is enough to push it around the place
