Guilt-Toy
Just wondering what everyone likes about their RB30DET's.. ive been runnin round in twin cam rb30 brotherhood for around 4 to 5 years now... I love the gut busting pull (over 1 tonne of torque well 1083nm) , the feeling of being ripped from one side of the road to the other with ease, and how tough they sound as well. I especially like that i can drive it around off boost and be very very driveable with low compression ratio !! so fess up Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236583-what-do-you-like-best-about-your-rb30det/ Share on other sites
bubba
Still only got a little turbo on mine for now but I came from an RB20 and the difference (same turbo) is chalk and cheese. The abundance of torque is great, being able to drive under 2000rpm and stay with traffic or not having to downshift from 5th to overtake.. fkn awesome, love it and wouldn't go back! Oh yeah, they sound tough Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236583-what-do-you-like-best-about-your-rb30det/#findComment-4140485 Share on other sites
**RB2530**
++1 for the above PLUS not having to lean over as far when you change spark plugs...engine 40mm taller . Better for your back!! TiTAN
i like that mine looks pretty, only because it doesn't actually run yet. WHITER33GTS-T
Best upgrage ive made. I had to choose wether to rebuild the 25 or go with the 30. The 30 is so much more drivable with my twin turbo setup. Would have been nice to see how a 5 speed would last with the extra torque Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236583-what-do-you-like-best-about-your-rb30det/#findComment-4141245 Share on other sites
bubba
25det 5spd? should be fine, I'm not making a heap of power yet but I do beat up on it quite hard and it's holding up fine where the RB20 box died within a couple of months of the 30 going in! 3L TORQUE FTMFW! unique1
i like the rb30 bottom end the best because it only cost me $50 for it, $100 to deck, clean and tap the oil drain and turbo feed holes and its good to go, if it blows up who cares ill buy another one Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236583-what-do-you-like-best-about-your-rb30det/#findComment-4143999 Share on other sites
CEF11E
I like mine because i built it and it works I also love cruising in 5th at 80 and planting it. even in overdriven gear ratios the torque is a surge like nothing else. things i dont like... having to run semi slick 255 tyres to get traction and replacing them every other month Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236583-what-do-you-like-best-about-your-rb30det/#findComment-4144319 Share on other sites
MBS206
I like the fact that I have insane fuel economy... Although that might be because it goes through more engine problems then tanks of fuel... Anyone want to change my BHG? But, when it is running, even pig rich, the torque, to just cruise in and around easily. Then when I want some real power, plant it, and wait a second or so for boost... Oh... And only revving to 5000RPM, only 1 bar of boost, running pig rich, no timing, and still able to pull 3rd gear roll on burnouts in the dry with 255 wide rears on... But it's not fun when only using 1/4 throttle in the wet and having the same issues... R.I.P.S NZ
The fact that you can easily start burnouts from a standstill in 4th gear and lay rubber for ages up the road with ease? Cubes
Unsure on the torque mines running in comparison to Guilt-Toys but its making ~160rwkw at 3000rpm 200rwkw at 3500rpm and 256rwkw at 4000rpm then on to 302rwkw @ 17psi @ 6000rpm. Cams really woke it up with regards to the power it made on bugger all boost. * The forgivingness if you don't want to rev it out; short shift and it just doesn't seem to loose pace or drop off boost. * Its pull from 60km/h in fourth gear. * Being able to stick it to rb25 and 26's from 60km/h in third gear when they are nailing second. Most of all how tough the 3ltr sounds. Since the cams went in its super deep and throbs on idle. Cubes
265/263 8.9mm Tighe Regrinds. 221degree's at 0.050" - Cost me $330. I was a little sceptical of the 265duration but Shaun/Boostworx insisted they work well in the rb30. Fuel economy is great - A little over 11L/100. No noticeable loss down low even though the dyno shows 2-3 kw. Once over 2k the cams start making more power compared to stock. On the road low gear spool improved noticably. It appears to rev up and spool the turbo a tad quicker at light load (i.e low gear). Or you bought whole new cams, already done? I really want some new cams, as big as I can go, and for my head, it looks like a 272 with 9.25mm lift is as large as I can get in there... My biggest issue in finding cams is finding ones to match an RB20... That's $330 per cam? or $330 total? Cubes
Reground RB26 cams (that I picked up for $60 for two) as they don't have to be built up. $330 in total for both sticks. xsv_32
Lol mine isnt going yet either so at the moment my favourite thing is bragging rights to my other mate rebuilding his 25 . Secondly is the anticipation of getting it goin cos of all the stories about lighting up the rears in 3rd in fourth etc. Cant wait!! Secondly is the anticipation of getting it goin cos of all the stories about lighting up the rears in 3rd in fourth etc. Cant wait!! I don't like the fact that mine will bag 3rd gear with 1/4 throttle in the wet... Makes it f**king pathetic attempting to overtake or anything... And that's 3rd gear, doing 80km/h, go to accel and it steps sideways... And at the cost of rubber on the rear... You cringe very quickly... Cubes
Need a bigger turbo. I find the GT30 to be really tractable. Part throttle the boost moves up with more throttle i give it. Its easy to have it just hanging on the limit so to speak. If I don't feel like playing with the throttle - 80km/h in fourth still pulls plenty hard and will start to break traction at around 110km/h with half throttle in the wet Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/236583-what-do-you-like-best-about-your-rb30det/#findComment-4212090 Share on other sites
