Hooray. Ive finally worked it out.

You know the beep that happens when youre trying to work on your pride and joy and listen to some music with the door open and all you can hear is the "beep beep beep".

Well I found the control box to fix it

You have 2 options to fix this.

1. Get a ridiculously loud sound system, and annoy the neighbours...

or 2. Cut a wire.

I went for option 2 because I like my neighbours.

Located under the dash on the drivers side is a little black box labelled "smart entrance".

There is a black wire with a purple stripe on it. Cut it and wrap electrical tape over the ends.

Thats it.

This does not mean that when you leave your lights on you wont get that beep, you still will.

Thanks to Jack88 for informing me of the colour of the wire. :)

This is my first DIY so I hope it is helpful and not pathetic!!

Cheers, Jase. :bunny:

As my car is in a million pieces while it is getting repaired I decided to go looking for the wire you mention. I also couldn't find it.

So I went for option three which was to take that plastic strip off the door and disconnect the sensor at the door end. Took about 2 minutes.

The downside is that the interior light doesn't come on when the doors are opened, but that doesn't really bother me as much as that beeping did...

lol, by doing that, (and if you have an a alarm also) it will disable the alarm as its wired to the switch.

No alarm so no worries for me :)

Sure its not a perfect system but it worked for me...

or you could just turn the car to the ON position when working on your car and beeping gone? lol no cutting of wires required.

ahhh, no. sometimes i work on my car for hours. bye bye batttery and isnt that bad for the ignition system??

i should also add that in a series 1 its to the left hand side of the glove box housing, not in the same place as the series 2's. check my tut for the series 1 version.

hey all

found another way to get rid of the beep without cutting the wire.

i simply listened to where the beep was coming from and unplugged the plug that went to the lil siren.

heres a video of mine. btw its a s1 r33 gtst.

hope this helps those that couldnt find the wire.

if you cant be bothered watching the video, its a lil orangy yellow box just on the left hand side of the steering column. it has a white plug with wires facing down.

was installing the alarm on the gtr and there are two plugs one for the door beep and one for the lights,on the back of the key barrel.means you have to pull apart the trim around the steering column. just unplug that and should all be sweet. no cutting of wires. (don't ask me what colour or anything as my dad did it who was an auto elec for a while).

hey just did mine, different way though.

entry is via the small pull out section near bonnet release.

on the right hand side, under the steering wheel is a black box with 'smart entry' on it, size is about 4cm by 7cm

undo 2 screws to take the box off the holding bracket.

take out white plastic plug from box. (sticks in there pretty good)

the black surround around where the plug went comes out, you will see where u can put in a screwdriver to jimmy it out.

take out the circuit board.

match up where the actual beeper is from where the audio holes are on the side (it is a round black cylinder abour 5c piece in diamater and 10 cm high)

CAREFULLY either:

1- prize it off with a flathead screwdriver and pull out the terminals with some needle nose pliers gently (i did it this way easily)

2- get a solder iron and reheat/undo the conection from the back

put everything back the way you found it :)

this way it wont phuk with you alarm or windows or anything else, cos everything is as it was, just no noise cos obviously no beeper :(

btw car was a r33gtst S2, should take about 20 mins max, have fun

LOL..to all these people that followed all these steps..

Easier choice, unplug the loom that goes to the beeper.

It's right under the steering column guys...listen and you will find a small black plastic box bout the size of a match box with a little hole in it where the beeping comes out of.

Everything still works fine..ie Alarm, windows..bla bla bla...

It's just the loom that sends a signal to the beeper to well literally beep and annoy the sh*t out of you.

Yep. I thought that was what people meant when they unplugged the beeper itself?!?!

Why you'd mess with anything else is beyond me.

    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
