Potential problem....

I've got some custom plates ready to be picked up that I ordered a couple of weeks ago, and it says in the letter to bring in the existing plates & current rego papers. Now I can't find my last registration papers... I thought it was still in my glove box where I usually keep it after paying it, but I can't find it in my car or anywhere else I would normally keep something like that.

I got home literally 5mins too late to call the DPI & ask them if it's going to be a problem, but has anyone ever had any problems when they needed their papers & didn't have them? (like selling a car for example)

I'd think that it would be easy for them to check up on their system when I go in to the licensing centre to see that the car is registered, & maybe with id that it's registered to me....but I'm just trying to find out now because if it's no problem because with work tomorrow I might not even have a chance to call them to find out!

Can anyone help? Searching has given me nothing :P

They asked me for my papers also in that letter thingo saying they have arrived, I just drove down to the D.P.I unscrewed my original plates went to the counter with the letter and said i need my new custom plates. :)

Then they changed them over No hassles they never asked me for The rego papers they just said "Ring your Insurance Company and tell them youve changed your plates" Otherwise i had no problems.

So you should be Fine :)

dude quite sure they can easily bring up ur rego details on their system...they get probs like that daily...wouldnt stress..

That's what I was thinking but I'd hate to be waiting there tomorrow & get told I can't have them over a little thing like a piece of paper :)

nathan they said i had to take the papers but when i get there they didn't even look at them. Dont know if it was just me or whether or not i just got the lazy person at the centre :)

Yeah just a technicality but hopefully I get someone similar...laziness ftw!!!11!

Sweet as, thanks for the replies!

yeah if you have an old set lying around you can use those - doesn't have to be current license papers. Otherwise they will print off a duplicate but they will slug you $19 for the priviledge.

Becareful with licensing centres as it's a bit of pot luck. One day you'll get someone more than happy to slightly bend the rules but most times you'll get a stickler for the rules and no matter how small and ridiculous it maybe they will go 'computer says no'

Back in the day i used to do licensing for a dealership so spent many an hour in the licensing centre.
