IT NEEDS TO CHANGE IF QLD CAN HAVE THIS MOD PLATE STUFF WHY CANT WE..

I mean - lets list the LEGAL modifications that can be done to a car in SA....

Cat-Back Exhaust (within reason)

Front Mount intercooler (that doesn't require any modification the front bar)

ummm.... 2" bigger on your wheels....

Doesn't create for a very exiting car-culture does it...

To continue my rant, im going to start with the first most important point :

A ) no simple or affordable way to have your modification deemed *legal*

(it costs more to engineer some coilovers than to bloody buy them!)

QLD & NSW have things like modplates and engineering certificates so that enthusiasts who do the right thing dont get hassled... it cost me $800 to have EVERYTHING on my car engineered, cheapest quote i got in adelaide was around $6,500.... and half of the mods weren't "engineerable" in SA...

B ) Defect Traps *RBT & Drug Testing* excuses. I'm completely against drink/drugged driving, however at Mallala i guarentee they will defect 10X more cars than arrest drunk or drugged drivers.

C ) Inconsistent rules at Regency: with 1 main RTA station, you think they would be able to get it right ?

D ) Police mentality now heavily biast towards pulling over imports (shit it's an easy target, since all you have to look for is a BOV (i would like to see a study on how MASSIVE the impacts of having one are, when compared to the 20year+ old pieces of shit you see driving on adelaide roads.... and why they are deemed such an illegal item in the first place)

End of the day, the amount of petitions / groups formed etc. to try and change legislation in SA... i haven't seen one change in 10 years. Why? maybe people aren't choosing the right avenues, or people give up too easy, or maybe the demographic just wont get light of day thanks to hoon stereotype that we have these biast media-hype sensationalist shows like ACA and today tonight to thank for.

Im interstate now so it's not my issue, but i admit coming back to SA after being away makes it so much more bleedingly obvious how poorly deligated police resources are in this state, and how sickeningly obvious the revenue raising is. (Maybe it's just a result of the South Australian being either lazy or just not willing to speak up, cause i know in NSW / QLD the general public wouldn't stand for a bar of it.)

I’m not saying that shit cars should be allowed on the streets and yes sometimes cars like that get defected but most of the time its imports that are well looked after and stick out and are clean as, that get defected.

and i think its a good idea to introduce mod plates and have cheaper engineering here so us non hoons car enthusiasts will be left alone or some sort of system that will do this. im sick of driving my car in fear i love my cars and i want to enjoy them with out being targeted. i will pay an extra fee in my rego or somthing to be left alone.

i just dont want to pay $$$$$ and time to get my car off defect becauase the cop was having a bad day or he hates import cars ect ect.

***we should all brain storm ideas together TO FIGHT BACK. and unfair defects (that are wrong) just to get there quota up and they get away with it.***

cheers

i totally agree with you ,

the laws in adelaide are shit ,

no joke , i saw an old vw beatle going down cross roads earlier today , FULL rusted boot , like you could see that it wasnt surface rust , guess what .

cop car pulls up behind it and looks at ME in my R33 s2...

starts running my rego ...

seriously , if your going to defect a car , defect some old piece of shit that has 1 and a 1/4 working drum brakes and more rust then the titanic.

Hello boys and girls,

I'd hoped to put my 2c in before this thread turned sour, but I might be a bit late. Anyway I'm going to attempt to reply to the above for you. I've shopped up your quote lunacys13 to keep to the point and keep to the things I can offer advice on:

RBT/Drug testing stations exist at all major sporting (including motorsport) events in the state as well as other major events. Why? And why do Police seem to be out in force? Because it's funded federally. They provide the funding because their statistics indicate that it works.

The defects that are found on the site are roadworthy issues or breach of ADR's. Police don't actively set out to only find defects at these stations but we have eyes and its our job to action the things we find.

Yes, there can be a Police targetting of imports. Just as there can be a targetting of holdens, fords or old bombs. You may be suprised to learn that the majority of cars that some through the station aren't imports on their way to regency. They're usually Holdens with bald tyres, blown lights, seatbelts etc. At least, they are where I work.

You may also be suprised to learn that attention towards imports isn't always unwarranted. The amount of imports I see flogging their cars around on the street and/or racing far outweighs anything else (except and RCK cruise of course!). Skylines are, as you all know, an increasingly popular weapon of choice for car theives so Police need to be vigilant in detecting these guys. And as long as I have cars baiting me into chasing them (like a certain black Stagea while on the way to a priority A job - I have a long memory buddy), sorry but my spidey senses tingle slightly whenever one's around.

You can try all you like and I'll wish you well but the fact of the matter is, the state Government do not want missiles on the road. They also believe that with the corruption etc that exists in the eastern states, that the roadworthy inspection system doesn't work. Apart from Regency, which is obviously more expensive, I think everyone should agree that $24.50 is hardly "revenue raising" when it forces a car owner to address some often basic safety issues with their car.

And finally, I know how it feels. Especially when your cars the biggest part of your life. I know because until recently, when petrol prices forced me out of turbo ownership (for now) I was just like you. The biggest tip I can give is KISS - and keep it classy. If you want to polish your intercooler pipes, paint your bonnet black, have some stupid offset wheels, a ridiculously loud exhaust with no cat, and a atmo-bov, you may as well book your regency appointment now. If you don't want an all expenses paid date with regency (where you foot the bill), build a performance car that looks neat, goes hard and doesn't attract attention.

See you on the streets
