I'm sure the media can somehow turn it around and make it seem as though we're blocking the roads off to hold a street race.................... uses footages of us causing the road blocks then use footages off the fast and furious movies for street racing scenes.......

A few years ago, me and two others organised "Block the Bay" at Glenelg. All the motorcycles turned up at Glenelg for a whole weekend and occupied all the parking spaces on Jetty Road. The issue was that the Holdfast Bay council had removed all motorcycle parks on the main roads, only leaving motorcycle parks in back streets. We sure as hell didn't want to park our vulnerable bikes in backstreets. So we organised a weekend where motorbikes took up all the parks and one bike would pull in as another left.

The Council hit the roof and sent out inspectors and the police. Problem was that it was perfectly legal, even if it was organised. Council argued we could fit 4-5 bikes in one car park, but they were also fining us for multiple parking :merli: So we stuck to the "one vehicle per park" rule.

We had the media out in force. There was even a nice little bit of footage of me riding off down Jetty Road to nab another park

hahaha ^^^^ nice one Ruby

The victory didn't last long. Council "temporarily" provided motorcycle parks near the McDs top of Jetty Road. "Wendy", a fellow organiser of the Block the Bay (there were 3 of us), got killed a year later in a crash at O'Halloran Hill, and to add salt to that wound, Council removed the "temporary" motorcycle parking knowing an organiser of the event wouldn't be around to fight it. Wendy being killed kinda ruined the taste for fighting ... everyone went soft.

The guys have "talked" about doing it again for over a year now, but no ones gotten off their arse to do anything about it. I still ride with many of the "old school" bikers, so maybe we can round up a few young riders and get the numbers up to do it again. Summer time in the last break before exams etc is always a good time to do it!

:P
