looking a buying this GTR and its an auto.

would it be a genune GTR?

If you are referring to R35 GTR then YES, they are all DSG box which looks like 'AUTO', although indeed they are manual gearbox with electronic clutch and paddle shift on steering column.

  • 2 weeks later...
Correct, Autech made an auto 'GTR' and also an NA RB26 'GTR'. But Nissan did not make an auto GTR from the factory.

Incorrect. Autech made an R33 GT-R sedan (manual only) and the R32 Skyline26, which is a sedan with NA RB26 and auto trans.

The only GT-R with an "auto" is the R35, even that is technically a manual.

If you want auto, buy an Evo 7 GT-A :D

If you dont mind me asking...why? To be honest I think everyone here will agree with me when I say if your on an auto license it will def. be worthwhile to learn and get a manual, also when/if you plan on reselling auto's are a hard sell from what i've heard

Is there a way to go convert manual -> auto? or at least convert it to semi-auto?

I see plenty of people here converting their auto to manual, but is the reverse possible?

Just curious.

In theory it is possible with some control box that initiate the master clutch cylinder when the shifter paddle or button is pressed. There are some products that changes the conventional H shiftgear pattern to an up and down sequential pattern for drag racing applications. With some air pump connected to the clutch system the whole thing can be coordinated to convert the manual box into some kind of a semi auto or DSG style box, without swapping the manual gearbox with a traditional torque converter auto box.

WIth R35 GTR I think Nissan is ambitious to beat Porsche time and decided that a DSG is the best way to go to:

- get the quickest gearshift change as quick as possible regardless of driver's skill (even F1 driver uses paddle shift)

- electronically coordinated gear change protect the gearbox from enormous Horse Power shock in the hands of not so experienced general drivers.

Theoretically - it's called "paying heaps of money to make your car worth less" :)

Far cheaper to get driving lessons...
