But i had all the bushes replaced at the start of this year, with superpro ones. I know the blokes at pedders, so thats where i take my car all the time. they even allow me in the workshop to giv em a hand and see what they do. I had my coilovers installed there last week, and went in on saturday and we took the bushes out and regreased em'. Thats why i dont understand what the noise is.

Yeh mate. S2 R33. I got told that it could be the steering rack. The situation was; i went into a double laned roundabout. The c*&t in the left lane cut across, so i swerved right, and the right hand side hit the gutter. Thats when i replaced the suspension and a couple of little bits. Yeh, i got told theres no cv joints. Could it be the steering rack? Are they expensive?

  • 2 weeks later...

I also have this issue with my 33. I had a checkup at pedders today, castor bushes are gone and a small amount of play in the rack is all they found on the front.

I also would like to know how much a rack would cost.

If the most recent thing that was installed was the coilovers then perhaps that is the issue? Either the top pillowball or the spring? Other then that if you lowered the car when you put the coilovers in you may be putting new stress on worn parts that you wouldn't have noticed before.

From memory a mate bought a rack for an R34 for about $150 from a wrecker.

Sounds like a possibility. If you jack up the front of the car, front wheels off the ground, try pulling the wheel back and forth in the same directions it steers to feel for free play.

Hey guys..

One thing it might be that I dont see mentioned is the steering wheel has a piece of metal that absorbs vibration mounted inside it. This can fall out of its mounting, then when you turn the wheel one way or another sometimes it will clunk over to the other side of the steering wheel.

Sounds like it might be what you are feeling.

Found the related thread on how to fix it:

    • Not yet, might end up being easter now, didn't end up getting time off over xmas.    I've been seeing some concerning things online now too. Lots of people with issues, could all be setup issues but the consequences in some cases are significant.    All of the below are other peoples stories, not mine and are unverified.  Seen 2 x broken adapter ring that destroyed the gearbox as it failed.   They still do seem to have twin plate rattle despite claims of silent. Several issues with it not holding power but some evidence of constant pressure on plate. Setup issues with bite point.   Lot of people after 2-4 weeks swapping back to another brand.    On the positive side, I've seen a barra put down near 1000hp at the wheels and its held it.  Also everyone seems to confirm the pedal is light.    Does have me a little cautious and looking at ATS carbon clutches again .......
