Great thread except for the cat fights...

So is this car going to be raced, or is it a purpose built dyno weapon? If it does hit the track it will need full cage and chute i'd imagine.

For a daily driver did anyone think for a moment about the fuel consumption of 6 x 1600cc injectors...

I had a thought about the issue with dyno comps and light ramp rates. While talking with some tuners at a training event last time i was down south someone mentioned the issue of ramp rates being so light that some of their turbo dyno comp cars were barely achieving full boost for their runs. Where as this wasnt an issue of course for the supercharger croud.

I've read of some of the pro-mod drag cars in the US that use a nitrogen gas injection anti-lag system to pre-spool the turbo onto boost. As its not dependant on engine load this could be done to overcome lack of dyno/engine load during a power run. Basically they have a nozzel in the header before the turbine housing and inject nitrogen gas briefly to spool the turbo onto boost. The moment the gas is in the header it expands greatly because of the heat and eliminates lag. I'd imagine all the top dyno comp cars are running engine management capable of turning on a solenoid at say 60% load and above 5000 rpm, and off again at say 80-90% load and perhaps above 7000 rpm, thereby allowing the engine to settle and run on just turbo to max rpm. Just a thought...

we ran athids car on RE customs dyno the other night and it came up within a poofteeth of mine.... they dyno operator told athid it should be run in 4th (car was s15) and it ran 240rwkw..... ran it at re's and it ran 280 in 5th on 19"s with wheelspin... then ran it in 4th and it made 259rwkw.

not trying to wind you up here but your example is a little poor...everytime ive ran my car on a dyno in the night air its made more power...say 10kw minimum. Autosalon is run during the day and the conditions/air is not ideal compared to at night at workshop. Say you take that 10kw off the night reading...the dyno was out by 9kw!

Real world example...my car ran 467kw at Croydon the night before NAS last year...the next day with hotter more humid conditions combined with fuel/exhaust gas in the air it rolled 450kw. Was it because the dyno/ramp rates were wrong...no its because the conditions were not ideal for the car to perform to its optimum.

All cars in dyno comps are supposed to be run in 4th or 5th depending on which gear is 1:1 eg 5 speed in 4th or 6 speed in 5th

The role of a professional operator at a dyno competition is to eliminate as many variables as possible. The thing people forget is that a dyno is a scientifically designed and constructed piece of precision equipment and by far and away the biggest variable is THE CAR ON THE ROLLERS!

You can regulate tyre pressures, gear ratios, ramp rates, dyno modes, corrections etc all you want but the biggest variable will ALWAYS be the car.

Period.

yeah everyone was out, we ran athids car on RE customs dyno the other night and it came up within a poofteeth of mine.... they dyno operator told athid it should be run in 4th (car was s15) and it ran 240rwkw..... ran it at re's and it ran 280 in 5th on 19"s with wheelspin... then ran it in 4th and it made 259rwkw. If it had had been done properly athid would have taken out 4cyl turbo EASY... (LOVE THE BULLSHIT ABOUT HIGHER READINGS IN A LOWER GEAR)

DARRENs supra from ran well below its hp level (400hp off on sat) until sunday when it got tweaked to suit and rocketed to top position... only to be outdone by GAS on the last run of the day.

Angelos r33 GTR from racepace ran mid 314rwkw.....well down so it was pretty much all workshops with odd readings..... not foul play just poor operators.

shit even a R32 GTR pulled 140.... talk about sad..

What GTR ran 140kws?

this is the list...

mine is the evo that ran up 310.8kws (they only gave me 2 runs) dyno was probably out but not by 50+ kws.

ummm you just posted it yourself...

I knew Osman's did some strange things like remove all the seats in a WRX convert it to a ute and run a single seat in the middle of the car....but remove the turbo's off a GTR is wrong in the extreme.

The "No" refers to no NOS, the "turbo" means it is running a turbo - notice some others have N/A in this field.

haha you spend too much time typing...... and coming up with conspiracy theories :laughing-smiley-014: dont get me started with you just plain reading into things that just aint there..... i dont know how you find the time... im too busy on the dyno all day to keep track of it all...

just thought id let you know that i looked at athids dyno time (@RE's) it was 2pm about the same time as MAS ambient temp also about the same (within 2degrees of MAS) dyno graph below. didnt check baro as frankly i couldnt be fkd.

agreed cars are always run in 1:1...thats why athid had the whinge every one knows s15 are 6 speed, and 5th is 1:1.

oh and ignore the boost levels ray had some boost scale issues on the first few runs, all runs were 23psi. feel free to ring and ask him if you think its another conspiracy :P

Well that is within a KW or 2 of what it makes @ Dr Drifts but then again he has a chassis dyno which means lots of wheel spin :P

would be interesting to see some other cars on your or rays dyno, might see if some can pop down next friday to RE

yeah ive done 4 cars now, one on rays, one str8 from sabbadins and two from T&E ?? in paky all with in reasonable limits. Rays was a good test for differrences between 4 and 5th. I ve also had heaps of remaps come in from DRDRIFT that i have tuned that pulled close to thier sheets on my dyno before we started any work. Pretty sure DRDRIFT's is pretty much always spot on... it should read the same as MPC's as its the same dyno :) There should be hardly any wheelspin at a lowly 260 rwkw...

But you said in your post "the other night" so was it at night or 2pm...lol

it took of a minute or two reading your excuse to come up with the theory at 11pm after a few of Coopers pale brew's.

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
