timing lights are hard to use on a nissan because they don't use standard leads so what i did was get copper wire rap it around the top of the spark plug attach the coil with the wire coming along the side of the spark plug and up from the side of the coil boot then i attached the wire to the timing light pick up. this worked for me.

you know you use timing lights very rarely so do what i did return it after you use it and there you saved $80

for r33 gts and gtst the timing is at 15 degrees from the factory and 20 degrees for the r33 gtr

good luck

I usually have a spare lead to test with for my timing light.

Nissan engines (turbo ones) dont use leads, the coils sit directly ontop of the spark plugs.

So what you dois carry a normal lead, attach this to the plug, then to the coil, and then clamp your timing light onto this lead. When doing timing advvancements and retarding, you only need to measure the timing from the 1st Cylinder anyway.

sorry to bring up a bit of a old thread, how do u test timing on rb25 series 2, do you know what wires to clamp it around?

my cas was facing the wrong way from this engine i got from a importer, so ive turned it around and set it in the middle, so im going to have to play with timing tomorrow when i first start the car, (engine hasnt been started in a few months), will the car just run like crap if timing is right off?

any info would be good,

Thanks

At the back of the engine where the coil pack cover is there are two loops - one white wire and one white with a black trace. The white one is what you use, but I found that my timing light would fire inconsistently off this because it was expecting a stronger/clearer pulse. Therefore I did the plug lead trick (coil pack -> spark plug lead -> spark plug) for cylinder 1.

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!
