for the 1st show I think they did very well.

They would have expected 95% of people with little minds would say 'its just like the UK top gear' and would have critised everything from the comedy, to the driving and so on.

Give the entire crew and cast a chance to mould themselves. The main two have very high credentials in the car industry and would destroy everyone on this forum in driving skills.

I feel we are lucky SBS have put the money into producing this for our viewing.

i get what ur saying amir. we need to give them a chance bla bla bla.

but im not going to lose 1hr of my life putting up with shit. just because they are aussies. and not watching would constitite some anti-australian sentimants.

bottomline____________i cant sit through that again :D_______________

however i must say. the south park episode after made up for it.

"DID U SEE THE SPOOKY GHOST? IT WAS A SPOOKY GHOST"

lol xd

I thought the show was pretty ordinary but as somone else has stated it was the first show and i would think they wouldve had some jitters through out it no doubt. In saying that though, top gear in the uk started in i think 78, then when clarkson come on he made changes and the ratings went through the roof in 88 i think it was. I think by 5 episodes in sbs will find out where they are, whether the 1,000,000 dollar budget per episode is worth it for top gear or will they just get rid of it by the end of the 1st season. The 6 or 7 seconds they showed on the track were shit of those cars they ran all at once. They didnt even show a full view of how the track is layed out!!! I dont see where the mil went for the show cos they didnt need to buy the cars, maybe just rent and pay for sevices before and after each run and repairs. I dunno if it was my foxtel that buggered up but it was like they edited the time of the gtr when the english bloke mentioned it and i had to wait till i saw the time on the board. The english car magazine dude (clarkson) who was host is riduclus, ITS AN AUSSIE SHOW! he even used english sayings like "git", whats up with that and reminded me to much of dicko on aus idol. The daily telegraph cartoonist (james may) was ok but the porsche driver (hammond) was pathetic, he was to yobbo for me, a complete wanker. Il keep watching it just cos i can but wont be sad if i miss foxtel buggers up and doesnt record it for me like i am when it happened with the uk version.

Very poor SBS and i hope it gets better, not for your sake but for the sake of the 'top gear' brand.

If the japenese get a version of it, that would be the one to watch!!!! Lets Hope!!

Was good especially for the first episode. If that's their base, then no doubt they have the potential of getting much better.

What i find silly is how people say that TGAus wont be good because it doesnt have access to all the European cars.

Well if you want to see European cars, then watch TGUk, and if you want to see Australian car's then OMG you watch TGAus.

TGAus is made to compliment and not to replace TopGear UK. Now they have expanded their car range. Why would i want to listen to 2 reviews of the same car? Leave it to TGUk to review their local market and let TGAus use our local market.

Also, obviously TGAus set and style will be similar to TGUk.

As someone previously mentioned, its a franchise of TGUk, hence all the similarities.

Why would they spend millions of dollars on the license and make a completely different set, different stig name, different style etc. May as well have called it a completely different car show if it would have no relation to TG.

Although the first episode isnt anything spectacular, hopefully the 3 presenters (all who have no acting skills) will loosen up and act more natural.

But seeing as the majority of season 1 has been filmed already, they cant fix anything now until season 2, so i guess we have to put up with their lame jokes :/

Awful, I don't have the vocabulary to but together a description of that show, I don't think there are enough synonyms for bad in the english language to cover that total garbage. But all that aside, they need to find their own identity and present it in an original way rather than a carbon copy of UK version. I think if they hadn't gone for intellectual and gone bogan/normal aussie the show would be a lot better for it.

My rant over I'll be happy when its gone and I can watch the original one again. Ruined my Monday nights...

The crappy acting and shitty jokes didn't bother me one bit.

What did bother me was that Top Gear UK is renowned for being a PERFORMANCE car show more than anything else. Yes they run many tests on daily drivers and vans, but at the end of the day, the reason i tune in is to see a Lambo, Porsche and Aston getting cained through the Italian alps.

Going off the 1st epsiode, we will get nothing like that in the Aus version.

If i wanted to see a Ford v Holden comparo i could pick up ANY auto magazine in the country, or simply pull up a chair with a 6 pack on my driveway.

The one part of show which was just a tiny bit related to performance cars ( The stig's laps) was fu(king embarassing to watch.

So in conclusions TopGear Aus really sucked the big one!

They couldn't get the simplest of things right. That little irritating wheezle (spelling) trying to tell us what times each car got. At least make that a bit of a suspense, while he's saying 'guess what the GTR got holding the card the wrong way around and everyone can see the times before he says it.

Little things like that piss me off.

I hope they go down hill. Bring back Top Gear UK !!!

that's because in the UK's backyard you get Aston martins, TVR's, jags and bentleys, an open grey import market so ANY euro or japanese car can be imported and a fairly decent buying power due to their strong currency.

Now in our backyard you get Fords and Holdens and a handful of japanese cars you can somewhat call performance cars. At the end of the day the show has to be relevant. No point harping on and on about how wonderful a car is whether it be $20,000 or $200,000 if its never gonna be available in the country. Take note of the American cars they review on TGUK, the only ones they cover are the ones that are sold in the UK.

...and this is why, if the 1st episode on 30/09/08 is just an appetiser, we can expect to see comparisons between the Oz Nissan R35 and a W427 etc. Otherwise Holden etc could always cry foul over their car being compared to a grey import 'that may or may not have been tweaked'. It'll be good timing for Nissan to make one of its cars available to Top Gear after 04/09.

I'm prepared to be patient...

It was rubbish. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery but seriously - they tried to copy the BBC product to the letter; even down to having a short Hammond-like presenter, a 'Captain Slow' in Wazza Brown and a try-my-hardest-to-be-Clarkson bloke. And what a way to capture viewer interest from the get-go - have a comparison on Soft Roaders. Yay. Would have much rathered SBS just keeping on the repeats of the real thing. And as for next week's Holden vs Ford jokefest - if I wanted to hear about how much better Commodores are than Ferraris, Porsches and any Japanese car I would just buy Wheels or Motor. Won't last - unless shedloads of bogans get behind it.
