I am about to fit a FMIC to my belove R33 Gtst and I was wondering what sort of trouble i am in for and how best to combat it. Now i know a bunch of people are going to post "just get a shop to fit it." I want to do this myself as she's my baby i have the skills and some basic knowledge for it, and I am not stupid enough to believe it will be a cake walk so to all those out there that have fitted one any tips / tricks. even if some one has a rough time frame in which it took them to do it so i can be sure to set a sufficient amount of time aside to complete the project. I know it takes me under an hour to remove the front bar the and the stock intercooler / piping. so please post if you have helpful knowlege. Thanks for reading and may your line's always find an empty lane and cheap fuel.

have you used an angle grinder before?

doing a cooler is a pretty big step especially if you have to cut the chassis

but yeah remove the old piping and line the new piping and core up, see what modifications need to be made then get the angle grinder out

edit: my mate who's never done it before took about 4 hours with me occasionally answering questions so yeah get up at 10 on a saturday and give it a shot

Yeah I will be doing that several times before i go cutting and welding anything. it's a sound piece of advice thanks mate.

What kit have you got and which way does the piping run?

It all depends on the Intercooler that you have to fit, with mine i had to decide whether to keep the factory aircon radiator or cut the front reo.

if ya need a hand man give me a shout, i got mine in, so i can bring it around 2 show u.

but the suts they done were really dodgy.

yeah dude might need a set of hands that don't wander off when bold and the beautiful or some other crap comes on tv.

i'd say i have enough clearance in the front as i am also running a 400R front bar but until it arrives it's only pics i can go by. seen a few people have done it the way you mentioned trying to avoid relocating too much and cutting her up if i can.

Make sure your new piping (if not using a stealth kit) has a nipple in it.

The kit I put on didnt have it, so i drilled a hole and put one in.

Other than that, I had to take about 1cm off the reo bar, cut out the fog lights, cut back parts of the thermo fan, trim the front bar a bit and cut the hole in the wheel arch.

I threw mine in when i had the stock bar on didn't have to trim a thing went in like a hand in a glove. Only had to cut a hole in the r/h side of the chassis under the washer bottle for a pipe, but the material was thin as butcher cut it a little with the screwdriver and hammer, went like a hot knife throu butter. For that pipe cos it was U shaped i used a piece of cardboard to get the hole in the right place. I have a 400r bar on mine now and clearence is still not a problem.

The deed is done the FMIC is in. OMY-33 comae round and wefitted it in a few hours. wasn't too much of a pain in the ass I am going to have to do some cean up where we had to cut it for pipes. but thanks for the advice guys and thanks for the help OMY-33 +1 rep. The only question left is should I do an ECU reset?
