Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had their car engineered in Adelaide for the removal of

Hicas(r32 gtr)?

I have a lock bar in place wich regencey said looked 'fine n safe' etc but still need a report to clear defect

If so who did you go to and what was the damage?

dont go back to hicas, they wanted me to get a new one as my current one had too much slack/ play in it. went to heaps of wreckers, all had at least the same play. got the best one i could find, on re inspection they didnt even check, but it was a headf**k. for the price of a new rack plusi installing it, get it engineered. thats what im gona do if i get defected again. learnt my lesson trying to fix stupid hicas.

does it feel much different without it?

i dont mind it, so i dont see why people remove it

yeah i haven't felt it at all, doesn't it only move the wheels up to 1 degree or something?

hicas is really annoying! it's sort of hard to tell when it occurs until you lock it.

when you're sliding with hicas, everything is under control, then all of a sudden the car tries to straighten itself. counter steering is when it becomes dangerous and unpredictable.

once you lock it, you'll wish you did it earlier :blush:

you guys haven't felt it?? Ruby will offer you a "tea spoon of cement" and i'll tell you to attack the corners a bit harder princess =P then again, probably dont attack them too hard, HICAS can do "strange" things so be ready for it :blush:

note: if you'r used to it and your HICAS is working fine, things aren't strange and you can genrally tell when its about to happen and what it'll do. But because of its slight unpredictability and it's generally a hinderance rather than a help people remove it plus if yours is broken it can seriousally mess with your handling and/or body work =D

from my understanding and experiences with hicas, the more angle and speed you get the more unpredictable and "angry" it becomes. haha :(

99% of the time when i had my hicas set up, u wouldnt notice it. car drove fine, but randomly, usually when driving in the hills at high speed around a tight corner, the car would get a mind of its own and straighten up or even counter steer. very un predictable and dangerous.

with the hicas lock bar, car feels exactly the same, just peace of mind when thrashing.

oh and another issue i had was wheel alignment, i got adjustable camber arms and no where could align them with the hicas steering rack. coz theres slight play, any alignment is worthless. now i know nothing is gona shift around, camber can be set properly.

doug potts did mine, i could try n dig up his number if you really need or you could call nisswreck theyll have it handy.

cost me like $1200 to $1400 involved a hiring of a race track and him testing it through cones etc. depending on how far they ripped the sh*t out you could be up for 1k just in parts to replace the hicas if like mine the power steering lines n all have been removed to the back controlling the stuff. maybe i could just photo copy my report for ya :P

once you get the report though its a good opening comment to being pulled over, i have a engineers report if you would like to read it :) usual response seems to be "thats ok mate looks all good here" as they couldnt be bothered reading it.

as far as the endless argument on hicas being better or worse ive got a dvd with a race car driver talking about it ( GTR is the dvd title just a special thing about GTR's) saying that they go faster with it ripped out. but they say the average driver will go faster with it inplace. i much prefer having it out but thats jus my opinion.

HICAS shouldnt be kicking in before 80kph, tho it'll certainly give u error messages before that speed

Mines currently stuffed, and I'm in the process of getting the tools to fix it properly (first and foremost being a conzult interface)

When it wasnt broken it made high speed driving very very responsive... most people aren't really ready for that swift turn in, they expect the front wheels will take a fraction of a second to actually bite... basically it shifts the arse end of the car around quicker than most people expect...

When its stuffed (like mine is now) it can be the bane of yr existence. It'll mess with the power steering if the hicas computer malfunctions, you'll constantly have an annoying light on after 15 minutes, and then you'll get random actions happening if you do actually take it past 80kph within the first 15 minutes... like cruising down a highway in a straight line and ur rear wheels turn that 1'.... it makes a huge difference, especially to the amount of nappy san you have to add to your soiled undergarments...

However, nissan put the hicas there for a reason. Its true enuff a pro driver could go faster without it, but generally such cars have a stupendous amount of mods that'll make the car powerfull enuff that it wont be needed....

And, I'm far far far from a race driver. So yeah, happy to fix the hicas. Just need to pay my laptop off then the cable is comin' :P And then I actually get to >fix< the root cause (and I have a spare hicas computer just in case woot)

Im praying that $1400 was for a whole heaps of mods and just not the hicas rack, because if it is you got f**ked. I had mine engineered by rory about 2 months ago and was 250 i think all done.

I have had dealings with both rory and doug, and as they say if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all, thats why i keep going back to rory.

Thanks guys, I thought I'd be up for around $400 so $200-250 sounds good, I ll make some calls tommorrow didn't really want to ring some random in case I got "wtf is hicas?"

so see what happens, fairly set on getting it engineered, less haedache in the end.

when the hicas on my 180 shit itself i was doing about 100, just normal driving, and all of a sudden the back end tried to crab walk, from then on it felt like i replaced my rear springs with flubber, had no idea what the car was going to do. i locked it and definitely did not miss it.

got lucky in the onevia though, non-hicas model.

ok probably been said, but i've been through this saga recently so thought id give my experience.

i was denied for having a lock bar at regency, was told it was a safety issue being that they couldnt know whether the bar was strong enough and safe enough to take the force etc etc. so talked to a sus engineer and he mentioned that they need to x-ray the welds and do a driving test etc etc which all adds up.

what i ended up doing was putting my standard system back in and locking it with washers. my lines had been looped so i couldnt connect the lines back up, but from a safety stance we knew the hicas unit was now the same strength as stock, the only difference was the HICAS wasnt going to work. now i wasnt sure whether this would be an issue with regency, but i took the chance as i knew other skyline models didnt even come out with HICAS, so it is clearly safe.

but yeh, went through regency and they didnt have an issue with it, the guy i had though wasnt very thorough and he's pretty chilled so im not sure if i go through again whether i will pass or not.

Being serious, they dont worry about x-raying any welds or make you do any tests, Ring rory up, hand over 250 + gst he has a look at the bar writes a letter and your on you way being a happy camper to regency. I literally done this 2 months ago.

$1200 to engineer a >non< working HICAS ? (AKA lock bar)... ? to quote John McEnrow "Cmon, you gotta be shitting me!"
