JS now fly to Narita direct...

as far as I could see they only fly syd-cairns-tokyo? no direct flights, and none at all till mid december (i'm going next end of next month).

When i flew back from Osaka last trip we had booked the Jetsaver ticket, but as we had a sh1t load of luggage with us we needed to pay and extra $400 to get it on.Or for $450 we could upgrade to Starclass. So we upgraded, it was the best decision!

Comfy seats, a sleep pack, your own TV with many movies, shows, cartoons, music clips and comedies + free grog.

As this will not be a planned trip i would rather go the cheaper option and have the extra cash handy for random splurging

If the Automesse is on ill definitely be there.

the star dream thing dave is talking about sounds cool though, and their star class is much better priced than JAL or qantas business. I guess I just can't shake off my 'cheap' image of jetstar and my impression that cheap airlines scrimp on quality and safety (but I don't have any factual basis for that, just my paranoia!).

Don't mean to be picky, every airline has its +'s and -'s.

Currently Jetstar's average fleet age is about 3.5 yrs overall (As of February 2008, Jetstar's average fleet age is 2.7 years) and the Int'l route is run by A330-200s which are a little older than the A320s but only a couple of years. The 717s they were flying with at first were old from memory but they phased them out, a fleet on modern, new aircraft means less maintenance costs as aging aircraft need more regular checks.

The average age of a Qantas plane is over 10yrs old, and the average age of a Qantas 747 is over 15yrs old.

On a useless note

I do agree about customer service and other factors on cheap airlines being a bit 'crappier', and I got hit for over $160 for around 15kg too much baggage Melb-Brisbane recently on Virgin so I'm stil not talking nice about them.

I fly with whoever has the cheapest usuallly, paid full cost for Singapore Airlines to UK and back last year and didnt get even enough frequent flyer points on the Air NZ partner scheme to fly Wellington to Auckland, but being a longer flight the added features made it all the more enjoyable.

Just thought I would add for the soccer fans

Feb 11th 2009 is a Japan VS Australia World Cup qulifier match

Yeah thats what I'm going over for. Got tickets booked for under $1000 return with Jetstar flying to Narita with all the fruits included.

Jetstar are generally pretty ordinary though, I regularly fly domestic with them, f**kin never on time!

Hopefully international will be a bit better.

So yeah, whats goin on in Feb?

Thanks heaps for that! My wife will be over the moon (not - its valentines day).

I will be there! Anyone wanna meet there?

Thats cool. I was trying to find event on while we're there for the month of Feb in 2009. Too early for Super GT, D1, D1SL seasons. Nothing on at Okayama Circuit (the local track). I'm really happy.

Seriously, the only reason I'd not be going is if my parents-in-law force me to go the shrine and pray.

Michael.

Yeeew, just booked flights through jetstar! cost around $650-$670 return...Just saw that osaka automesse event will be on too!

Has anyone been to one of these before?

I fly into Osaka on the 1st of feb, fly out on the 17th...will definately try hit this up...

Booked last night, got tickets for $377 from Cairns (going to have to pay $200 for return to Brisbane).

Will be staying from the 4th-12th Feb and will be seeing the Aus vs Japan match.

Anyone going to be in Tokyo for those dates?

Ok Now i am REALLY considering going! few questions since i have never visited Japan!

things to do would be

aus japan 11th in tokyo?

automesse 12,13,14 osaka?(basically much bigger version of our autosalon??)

How long/far apart are toyko and osaka?

Where would i stay for the most part land in toyko or osaka?

What else would i be doing apart from sight seeing ? temples lakes moutains etc...what things are a must in japan

Speaking no japanese a big issue?

how is the shopping? electronics good i take it?! clothes other items?

7-14 days be enough to see enough of the country?

any other info i would appreciate guys!

cheers!!!

The oak,

Osaka and Tokyo are a bit of a distance apart, depending on how you will travel there each time will be different.

Tokyo hostels and hotels are cheap with sakura 40-100 night or sleep in a capsule for 20. If your looking for a double for osaka I wouldn't mind.

Plenty to see and do in Japan whether your into cars, anime, electronics, castles etc. 14 days should be fine but you will not be able to see everything.

Speaking Japanese will help but the younger generation is alright if you speak like a simpleton, haha.

Shopping, how much money do you have :D?

sadly with the aud now buying only 58 yen it's almost 50% more expensive to do anything in japan that it was 2 months ago. It's amazing. it was around the 100yen/dollar now at 58yen/dollar lots of stuff that was affordable wont be anymore. like a $180 a night hotel just became a $350 a night hotel etc. it may actually be enough of a price hike to make me put off my next 1 or 2 trips for a little while.
