hey fellas first off nice site lots of usefull info here

now to my problem.

my front pads are low and i thought argh what the heck ill get new ones so i went to autobarn and asked for skyline pads and got some ferodo excel's got home and tried to put them in and

OMG

they dont fit there too small the pads in it now is atleast 1-2cm taller then i realised after seing another skyline at work that mine was a 4 stud and his was a 5 stud.

now the previous owner said that he imported it like this so im thinking that the japenese owner changed the brakes but to what any one have any ideas?

thankyou

is it currently 4 or 5 stud? if 4, you have standard 4 door equipment which is different to the coupe. if 5, it could pretty much be anything.

also check for a code on the old pads eg. db1170 is a turbo r33s front brakes and it is often printed on the back of the pads

According to the Bendix website,

http://www.bendix.com.au/ProductCatalogue....;FromHomePage=1

a non-turbo R33 takes DB1165 pads up front.

Yep, if its a 4 stud skyline it'll take DB1165. I'd be taking this opportunity to get some better pads than Ferodo Excels...

my 32 has brakes that are realy messed up, its all factory gear as far as i can tell, its a 5 stud factory gtst yet it has single piston brakes, the pads for the front are off a silvia, the front rotors are off a diffrent silvia, the rear pads are from another silvia again, all non skyline, and then the rear rotors are off a skyline, that you cant actualy buy the rear rotors anywhere anymore, rda was the only place to make them then they discontinued them, so im upgrading the 4 piston front 2 piston rear breaks

Grab the Bendix book or jump on their website and start searching.

They have profiles of all their pads so you simply need to sit yours on the picture and see if its the same.

As soon as you find one the same shape and size your on a winner, buy a set and go home and fit them.

I fail to see why people have so much hassle with this sorta stuff, all the info is there in the brake books but then he did say he went to Autobarn...

  • 2 weeks later...

you have a non turbo skyline. four doors can have 5 stud, its all non turbo's that have that feature. Your car is a gts-4 so your brakes are defiantly different and when you go to Autobahn there just going to think its the braking system for a gtst or gts.

If you would like i could look up the part number on the work computer on saturday for bendix brake pads for a gts-4, i have one so i was going to look at the pads i need anyway as there going soon. do you have ABS you also be another question??

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
