haven't been to autosalon in a while now. would also like to know whats happened and also some pics or videos.

last time i went i was bored shitless which was weird cause i love cars...maybe because i wanted a seat in the dyno arena but there was too much god damn people lolz

Aside from the price increase, I was quite happy with the cars that were there this year. Maybe it's improved a little now it's only once per year. Saw a lot of people's cars who I knew, unfortunately most of the owners weren't there to have a chat to. Except Matt, hi again Matt! Most impressive car there in my eyes was the red Rodeo near the entrance, the attention to detail was amazing. Loved the custom dash.

Camera batteries were too low so no photos :merli:

it was boring.

very little verity in the cars from when i first when it only took me 45min to see the lot.

my reqermendation all feature cars should attend all states, this would not only increass the amount of car but also make it better imo

Went to MAS yesterday (Sat) to see what was new. Ran not Al there with his car with EAS and their usual green and red monsters. Not sure what they made on the dyno though. The number of cars were down for the year as a lot of the car clubs didn't' really show this year. I think I saw MelbS15, Agentz, TeamIgnite and a couple other smaller clubs but all the Indos, Evolve and a few others were no shows. Old cars like the PETIR Celica, Teken RX7, the hot red RX7 (who has been there for many years but I can't remember the name) were all there as were some other cars which had been rebirthed. There were a fair few new cars though which were turning heads. Buggered if I remember them coz I think I'm just getting too old for it. Even the models there this time round were only average. Didn't see any particularly hot models like you usually would in years gone by. Even walked round looking for Sandra to brighten up my day but she wasn't even there. What gives San? You said to drop past and you were a no show-er

Speaking of NOSHOW. Donny wasn't even there with his S15 or Ferrari or anything. Word has it that the last time he came to MAS, he demand King of AutoSalon even before the show and when AutoSalon told him to GAGF and earn it, he hasn't been back since. Seems like money can't buy anything...

The Haltech R35 GTR was there and ran up 360awkw on the dyno. This is a stock car besides the Haltech ECU. Apparently the car made 320awkw straight out of the box and they've tuned it up to a touch over 400awkw before which goes to show that this car will have some real tuning potential. At 170k though, I'm gonna hold off for a cheaper toy.

The dyno comp really has become an institution with cars from around the country coming to participate and take honours.

The big 3 of the day were the CDUCTV Supra ran up just over 800rwkw from what I heard but the real show came from Gas Motorworks from NSW. Their MZ2JZE ran up an impressive 841rwkw which was down on what was expected but their black GAS2JZ was a total animal and crushed it's own national record of 891rwkw with back to back runs of 949rwkw and 943rwkw!! Massive congrats to them and their awesome dyno cars. Although the cars are street registered, they weren't trying to decieve anyone and admitted that these cars are purposefully built for setting dyno records.

Gone are the days of 604awkw being massive numbers. I feel proud that I was one of the people who helped bring AutoSalon dyno comps into the spotlight back in 03-05 when myself, SAU and the Fang Artists brought out the most powerful cars and attracted crowds that left for standing room only.

Pics will come when I CBFed.

I was there with Dragon Motorsport, as i met most the guys through EAS.

I found that MAS keeps getting smaller each year with less attractions to keep people entertained. Still enjoyed it, as i had time to look at some nice cars and sit back with a few Johnnies :).

Was VERY disappointed with the dyno, you would think that if a car was smoking the rears on the first past, they would at least have a 2nd look at the straps. All 3 runs produced heaps of smoke, from the rear wheels, but poor kw figures. Just can't understand how they can get the power down on a 800+rwkw car and totally fark up the strapping of a 300+rwkw; i guess if you're not a big "player" they just don't give a shit. Car left the dyno with two strips of rubber spread across the floor and stuck in the guards. Below is a pic of some of the rubber i dug out from the guards. A fair amount considering it only had 3 passes, the operator was a bit of a tool; if you could see/feel the car loosing traction on the dyno, why the fark would you continue the run?

What a busy week/weekend!

Had a chance to meet up with a few SAU crew.

Big congrates to Ferrah and Team Ignite; always knew it was going to be a close decision between our two clubs.

On a happier note, i "sold" my jumper leads for $150

A guy needed to borrow them, i was about to ask for his license, then he gave me $100 and said he'll collect the money when he returns the leads, a few hours later i remembered about the leads and the money in my pocket, and after counting the money i realized he had actually given me $150. He never came back with the leads :D

So tired need some rest

that FAT200 S15 is my mates car and i agree he should have taken it for a professional polish before the autosalon but it was a last minute decision to enter..

i personally thought it was one of the better S15's on the day... here is another pic of the whole car

there was only a few cars there that turned heads.. and the models were pretty average

    • Only thing I'd add...is on recommendation from a good diff shop, I've used mineral oil in my diff including the race car for years. The synthetics can be too slippery and glaze the gears
    • 75W90 GL5 is fine. If you aren't sure about the type get one with LSD additive.
    • Because you're effectively rushing the shift and forcing it to go in - with greater leverage against parts that don't _want_ to go together. Short shift = forcing the gear in harder. Also Redline Heavy Shockproof actively says not to use it in anything with Synchros. Well, it says "not recommended" which is basically as far as anyone will ever say in a product statement to "Do not use" Generally the Redline makes the gearbox feel great... until it fails faster. https://www.redlineoil.com/heavy-shockproof
    • 99.9% of them are viscous diffs. The 0.01% are helicals. They were only option-able in the series 2, as well. I have redline heavy shockproof in my helical. It seems... fine? I don't think anyone is ever going to know until something really breaks and at that point I'm not sure anyone will blame the oil. I just chose it because it's extremely heavy duty and my car will see not-road-legal duty for it. I've also had sadness with various diff oils in the past sweating out everywhere and/or other 'fun' things, with clutch diffs. Given you have a 1.5 way on the shelf, I'd not even bother with the diff in the car and just get to tinkering with it. I would spend the $90 on oil toward the labor of someone else putting the diff in if time poor even lol.
    • I believe mine is helical and not clutch type. During drifting one wheel was spining as if it was open diff so bought kazz 1.5 way and has sat on my shelf for the past 5 years as I want to learn shiming process and do it myself   in meantime thought I change the diff oil hence post here. So any 75-90?   i am pretty sure r34 are helical not clutch lsd as standard . That is gtt ones
