217/r33
hi guys just thought i'd share my project with you. i'm modifying my friend’s r33 gtst as his now keen for some more juice mods: kkr480 turbo (internal gate) kkr dump/trust front pipe xforce high flow cat jjr exhaust (basically straight thru with just a canon, very loud!) splitfire coil packs hybrid fmic pfc z32 afm (still to buy) 040 fuel pump s15 480cc injectors the project is near complete, all the work has been done myself. the above mods have been installed apart from z32 afm witch im yet to buy. need to fix an exhaust leak between the turbo and dump, the bloody v-band clamps are a pain! should be completing the rest of the car in a few weeks, its taken a lot of weekends and skin of my hands! it will be tuned by adam at jem, i'm looking for a safe 240rwkw+ on 14psi any questions and suggestions are welcome, can’t wait to post up the results. i'll try and get some pics up soon. johnbarry88
sounds good but just from experience I dont think you will get 240rwkw out of 14psi though... kessian
Aren't 33 injectors a similar size to the s15 ones? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/239039-modifying-r33-gtst/#findComment-4177209 Share on other sites
l0WRB
you mite see 240rwkw on a happy dyno but your gonna need 18psi to see 240rwkw outta kkr480 they just dont have what it takes 2 make decent power. johnbarry88
nah 33 injectors are 370 and s15 are 440-460cc depending on who you ask... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/239039-modifying-r33-gtst/#findComment-4177291 Share on other sites
217/r33
sounds good but just from experience I dont think you will get 240rwkw out of 14psi though... well we will see what happens, maybe between 14-16psi depends how the motor reacts to it. kessian Posted Today, 01:46 PM Aren't 33 injectors a similar size to the s15 ones? r33 injectros are 370cc, s15 are 480cc l0WRB Posted Today, 01:47 PM you mite see 240rwkw on a happy dyno but your gonna need 18psi to see 240rwkw outta kkr480 they just dont have what it takes 2 make decent power. turbo seems very responsive, full boost by 4000-4500rpm without a proper dyno tune and comes one very hard. i've read some of your post on the forum and it seems so strange to me that yours is just so lagy. kkr have released a new version with fixed boost spike issues and it seems to work like a treat. i got some photos on my phone that i'll upload and post later today. WYTSKY
ur mods seem really similar to mine, except for 2 main things.. I have a hypergear tr43 and higher compression cuz its a non turbo engine.... I even have an exhaust leak between the back of the turbo and dump! I agree with those blasted v clamps! im getting a new dump pipe with a flex in the middle... that should work a treat...maybe something you should consider doing to your dump? atm, with a quick tune by dr. drift and the exhaust leak I am on 230rwkw...at 14psi... just to give you some measurement I want to fix the leak and then get a few good hours of tuning and then hopefully if she isnt knocking put the boost up a few more psi and get 250ish interested to know how you go.... 217/r33
ok here are some pics, please note that it’s nowhere near complete. this setup was only for testing. things that still need doing: exhaust leak new intake pipe buy/install z32 afm modify oil catch can to fit replace clamps re-connect ebc ect... will be fixing and exhaust leak this weekend and fabricating a new intake pipe. will keep everyone updated on the progress. l0WRB
well ive just finished putting an external 50mm wastegate welded straight off the exhaust housing (boost problem fixed) turbo makes around 250rwkw at 18psi at the moment though there decent turbos ive done 30,000kms on it at 18psi daily no shaft play at all... still feels brand new. i see 18psi by about 4500rpm which is ok i guess 4 bush bearing turbo. Adam hey adam, yeah them vband style stuff is rubbish! i don’t think it’s a matter of putting in the flex to reduce the weight being put onto the clamp, it’s the quality of the clamp. i also found that the surface of the dump pipe was not even so i will be machining it and locating a stronger and tighter clamp but anyway i hope that solves the issue. i'll keep you updated how did you find your 740cc injectors? did it cause a ruff idle? I still don't think the v clamps are great... but yeh.... wots worse is that I had a 3inch xforce dump with the flange for a standard turbo... the guys I asked to make it nice, neat and flat when cutting the dump's flange and putting on the circular lip for the v clamp and back of the turbo did an appalling job! very ugly welding but whats worse is that it was not flat.. so thats why I am wanting a new dump with the correct flat face for the back of the turbo with a flex in the middle so it should sit nice and flush PLEASE tell me if you can find a stronger clamp anywhere, obviously the more clamping power the better my injectors are not bad at all.... a tiny tiny bit worse...but its only had about hr-hr half max of tuning time... Sam's pretty good doing a quick safe tune... but we need to fix the leak before the final tune and possibly more boost... wot did help the idle being smoother was cleaning out the aac valve...lots of carbon mixed with a quick tune doesn't help at 800rpm the only reason I got them and not some sensibly sized s15 injectors or a slight aftermarket upgrade was because I got them for near the same price you probably paid for the s15's... right place right time I guess...always watching the for sale stuff on here! keep up the good work! 217/r33
keep us updated on this 217/r33 keen to see results and hear off any issues will do mate, so far so good. kkr480 went straight in onto stock manifold, had to twist the housing of the turbo to line them up for oil/water lines and intercool pipe. she still had about 3-5mm between the compressor and the manifold. i was lucky to pick up a oil/water cooler version. oil lines bolt straight up, i had to make up my own water lines by cutting the stock steal ones. only problem was the stock turbo uses a bigger bolt on the water line that connects to the turbo, so what i did was source out 2x stock bottom water lines of x2 wrecked r33's because the side that bolts into the bottom if the engine is the same size bolt into the turbo. so what i did was cut them in half using as much of the metal line as possible and connecting them up with a high temperature house. s15 injectors are a straight swap if you can bloody get the stock ones out of the fuel rail! that was a real pain. good luck with the bolts on the stock plenum, hard to get to if you have big hands. take of the throttle body and the aac valve and you should be sweet. bosh 040 is not that hard, took me about an hour. the car had a full tank of fuel... that was fun (there are heaps of D.I.Y on the forums) the rest of the mods are basically straight bolt on's. will be booking the car in this week to make up a new intake pipe for the turbo, will post up some pics when she's in alex. (using electronic gauge for near accurate reading) we will be doing the tune using the stock wastegate, see how it goes fingers crossed it will be fine alex. 217/r33
just dont be upset when it doesnt make the power you want i'm sure there will be enough power with the supporting mods, however i'm more after nice torque curve, nice smooth power curve and a safe tune. alex. 217/r33
quick update; im taking the car to sureflow exhaust in ingleburn friday morning to make up a new intake pipe for the turbo. spoke with grant at otomoto and his willing to replace the dump pipe and clamp because i think the dump pipe might be warped from the welding. the project is near complete, just waiting for a z32 afm. then it’s time to book her in for a tune alex.
