my goodness, you're running semi synth oil on engines like those?

you'll find most guys on here will be running AT LEAST a fully synthetic oil (like 99% of people) of Group IV or higher. A lot of oils unfortunately market themselves as synthetic when in fact they aren't.

Motul 300V Chrono is a very popular one. Redline for those that want a full Group V oil, but $$

AMSoil, Royal Purple, German Castrol, Mobil 1 - some other decent full synths.

5w30 would probably be the go, especially since you're in NZ, you'll be wanting that cold protection more than us. Unless you the engines see's a lot of track time. I'd be looking at a 0w30/40, or say 5w30 for street duties

the car does mostly drift but a bit of other motorsport stuff as well so a bit of thinking to do

this is the oil we were using

cheers for your suggestion. we will have to look for a suitable replacement

In Case it hasn't already been mentioned. ANDRA have BANNED E85 as a competition fuel.

Pretty crazy considering they allow 100% ethanol.

I am chasing up the ANDRA fuel guy about it but having no luck.

saw that one coming...

For the SA boys, the Liberty on tapleys hill rd seaton has E85 at the pump, 99.9c

Thanks for the heads-up Adrian. I've been buying mine from Peter at Scotchers. Any idea what blend the Liberty is 91/E?

Rumour has it that Mobil are starting to sell E85 at their petrol stations.

Unclear if its Australia wide just yet, but there is atleast one in sydney that has started selling it and another (near me) that has just had new tanks put in :)

Taken from Holden's wesite - notice the second sentence. Hopefully widely distributed commercially available E85 is only a matter of time.

Although E85* is not yet widely available in Australia, at Holden, we're working hard to make E85* the everyday fuel for Australian drivers.

In 2010 we'll be launching an E85* flex-fuel vehicle. This vehicle will run on any ethanol blended fuel from E10 all the way to E85*. Plus it'll also be able to run on normal petrol should the need arise.

Thanks for the heads-up Adrian. I've been buying mine from Peter at Scotchers. Any idea what blend the Liberty is 91/E?

sorry mate, no idea, ill ask next time I go there, i'd say it be 91 tho, i'm happy, goes good.

not driving it much so wont be keeping too much on hand, 40 litre's at most, the last 44 I got took too long to empty, I recon it went off toward the end, power seemed down and was hard to start!

Looking at the results of this thread has got me pretty excited and pretty bummed out at the same time.

Bummed out because I do not have access to any ethanol in this country (if you have kept up with my current adventure you would understand) .. Excited because I can see all the testing and time I have invested in e85 last year is paying off, there seems to be a big e85 trend going on since I stuck my neck out and tested this stuff in my car, Just search for E85 on google.com.au and you will see how many other forums are linked to us here at SAU.

Looking at the results from Trent @ Status Tuning - URAS has backed up everything that I have found on my initial testing of the fuel. I found a 40 - 50 rwkw increase with my setup but I was using a bigger turbo charger so you cannot compare them with this setup 100% but it does show that when you have a experienced tuner working with this fuel you can see major gains with no other modifcations as long as the fuel system is up to the task then you will have gains all across the board.

It is good to see that you guys are still working on this boost juice, without the support of tuners like Trent and enthusiasts like Joe Joe, Nytsky and Now the all famous Dirtgarage (AKA Twoogle and Mark Jacobson @ Godzilla and a few others like Yavus @ Unigroup Engineering and even JEM) it really puts SAU first in line in Australia for for this remarkable race gas in a pump for only 0.99c a litre.

So yeah, I am sure I do not only speak for myself when this warm fuzzy feeling of E85 love gets its share of internet hits... Its because of tuners and and enthusiasts like us who make it happen.

Keep up the good work! Someone needs to try and and push a complete stock RB25DET to as much power as possible with this fuel... are you up for the mission Trent? :D Can anyone say 400rwkw ?

Theres a user on here pushing 380rwkw (mainline dyno)on a stock engine which he tunes (the car has been running e85 for well over a year now).

Theres no doubt theres 400 in it.

The top end of this car is really something else.....The fuel is very forgiving its awsome stuff.

    • God I love shiny engine parts 🥰 Are you looking for more horsetorques in the mid range? (Smaller cam) Or just more horsetorques every where? (Big heads and bigger revs) Assumption: they were not bought late night shopping on the interwebs after drinking too many beers, which is typically how I pull pins on things......🤣 The evolution of your car is coming along nicely, I sometimes wish I didn't get bored with my cars and keep flipping them, maybe the MX5 will be different
    • I got the hazards working! Turned out it was disconnected! Indicator stock still isn’t working. I took the steering shroud off and there seems to be a third connection missing I see two small white connectors but they don’t fit the indicator switch unless they need a short lead to convert the connector type. Can someone point me in the direction of the wiring diagram for the indicator switch?   https://share.icloud.com/photos/0e8ReiFSLBVJsTPUKKfA_1IdQ
    • All of your suspension bushes/bolts etc, should also only ever be tightened when the car is sitting with full weight too.   IE, jack it back up, shove a heap of stuff down so you can lower the wheels onto so the car is "on the ground" but you have room to get under it.   It's why when properly done, you should be able to remove the shock and spring, but the arms won't go to 100% droop. If you don't do the above, you'll destroy your bushes.
