I have always liked Subaru's

Rex's, foresters, liberties..... i think they are very nice looking cars...... but i have to say that the new rex and the forester look like they were designed by the same people that designed daihatsu's and the honda CRV..... They look awful.

I have tried to let the new rex grow on me but its not working, its been half a year now and they still look ugly to me.

what are your views???

Impreza's have let the public down big time.

Ever since the lead designer from I think it was Alfa (correct me if im wrong) moved to Subaru, he has destroyed that model.

I think the last good looking Impreza/WRX was the MY03 model.

I remeber when i saw spy shots of the 'bug eye' - hideous.

Now they have totally lost the plot.

everyone hated the bug eye but they had grown on me, the sti just before this hatch came out was sweet, i saw a 2 door old skool impreza in the city last night, i'm still a fan of the 22b's

22b's = epic win.

current model = epic fail.

...the only models i didnt like is the one now and the bug eyed one...but even the bug eyed one looks like jessica alba compared to the hideous one we have now. its lost all its 'rexiness'...

although that being said, performance has been pretty good...engine etc. just the exterior killed it...and the interior..is so cheap and nasty.

hatches arn't that bad, look at the current astra coupe, they also come in a turbo version that would rival my gtst in a straight line..... the VW R32 is very sexy aswell and even the mazda 3 MPS looks pretty decent and hammers very hard, the new rex and the forester are going to kill their sports enthusiast side of sales..... really would you buy a rex sti at the moment or a VW R32, same power, similar price, both awd, vw looks so much hotter....... personally i'll stay with skylines but still.....

Hey buddy,

I work for subaru, the reason they designed the new impreza/wrx the way they did was because they were trying to appeal to a different market. When you previously thought WRX etc you normally thought young males..or older males (40ish)

They wanted to appeal more towards women and try and grow their "fan base" but in doing so alot of die-hard WRX/STI fans have been turned away purely because they don't like the shape.

However they will be bringing out a sedan later this year (the official launch was last month) however i still think it'll turn alot of ppl off the WRX.

As for the forester, i can't comment much, and i do think that the previous model XT (turbo) Forester looks better than the current. I think they were just trying to go with the current design trends of the market (Mitsubishi Outlander looks somewhat similar)

Hope this helps you mate

Nick

^ beat me to it. lol

If i remember correctly, Subaru's official statement was that it wanted to shed its 'boy racer' reputation for a more mature stance.

well it worked...no one with a decent sense of taste can love that thing.

This generation around, the evo design team has owned subaru...even a normal lancer looks more appealing.

i think it's Subaru going for a more conservative image.. to appeal to more family-minded people. Thus, the harder-edge WRXs of old were given the boot.

so now subaru is allowed to make cars ugly because they are trying to appeal to the same people that are up to their throats in loan repayments and mortgages?????? not a smart move lol

exactly

Love the new STi. Went and had a look and sit in it about 3 weeks ago and to me it had an awesome interior with everything looking well finished, nothing looking takky at all. Outside with the flared guards and the little designer features to make it look more sporty went down a treat.

Not a big fan of the other models ( rs, wrx, etc ) but sorry to say but I think this one has it over the older models. For me the older models were a rally car and looked the part, this thing looks much more like a sleek and stylish car you could do your everyday motoring in.

i still see fail all over it, a sports car is a sports car lol, let the other market buy the outback..... the new sedan still looks pretty average.... imagine nissan bringing out the new gtr looking like that....

also sales figures show this car isn't selling, although the basic model imprezzas are selling better than the wrx and sti's.... and the comment about the boy racer sounds right but its a f**king rally car to begin with lol whats next???? a ferrari being made into hatchback to get rid of the pompas rich boy racer image or to get rid of the drug dealer image???? or mabey ford will reintroduce the F250 as a honda crv rival????

Isnt this why car makers have different models in the first place?

Most car companies have the racer image in one of their models...

nissan= skyline, silvia, 350z (silvia is meant to be relaunched again next year)

Toyota= supra, chaser, they trying to make the bloody Aurion a racer car

Subaru= used to have the rex, not anymore ( too busy trying to make themselves better with the older generation)

Suzuki= little rally version swift from mid $20k drive away

even hyundai with the tiburon (although it failed here was a great success in USA)

agree the 03 was the nicest shape to date

when i first saw the new WRX i seriously thought someone had badged a totally different car lol... shouldnt they use a totally different make of car to appeal to other ppl.. lots of ppl buy because of the racer image.. why not just make a ghey version and a racer version.. as Kujotk said.. every brand has their racer cars..

but on the side of attracting women.. on my trip to/from work.. i see more women driving WRX/RS then men now.. And that's the bug eye version.. not this new creation of a blind man.. so the older models were attracting other groups

    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
