British detectives have made short work of a bungling car thief who broke into an unmarked police car kitted out with CCTV cameras.

To make matters worse for the aspiring criminal, he had his name and date of birth tattooed on his neck — making his arrest that much easier.

Aarron Evans, 21, pleaded guilty in Bristol Magistrates' Court to breaking into a covert police capture car in the city, according to UK media.

"We get such excellent images from these cameras that there is often — and never more so than in this case — no doubt who the criminal is," Supt Ian Wylie was quoted by the BBC as saying.

"Criminals won't be tolerated in Bristol and we will keep catching them and bringing them before the courts."

Evans, an illiterate man of no fixed address, was sentenced to seven months in jail.

The capture car — known as a "honeypot" — is a common technique used by British police to catch criminals in the act.

Officers bait the "honeypot" with a bounty of tempting items such as satellite navigation systems, handbags, car stereos and mobile phones.

Inside the car, cameras film the thief in the act.

So they're using "honeypots" there. are they doing similar things here?

no but they should be, i hate the fact that anyone can break into my car and not get caught.......

if i get ellected for PM i'll make honeypots standard prctice in aus.

sucked in EVANS

there was one of the bait cars on COPS or something like that, but what the cops did was put a mountain bike hanging half out the boot so people would steal it,but there was some catch in which the bike was valued at more then $1000 or something so they could get the theives with more punishment. something like that.

So why don't cops here in Aus. do it?

helloooo cops???

    • Hey guys, Just thought it might be of interest to owners of the RB25 det NEO motor, that awesomeness Nitto are in the late process to produce an engine gasket kit by end of Jan 25.  I think obviously there will be an 25det kit too. cheers, Ian

    • Bumping this thread yet again, has anyone ever tried putting yet another vacuum regulating valve on the hose that goes between the turbo inlet? Something local owners have mentioned is the Radium breather pipes de-restrict the valve cover but it actually produces an undesirable outcome in practice, way too much air is sucked out of the crankcase and a ton of oil comes with it as well. As far as I can tell the PCV diaphragm in these modern euro wet sump performance engines is active during boost as well, there's just a check valve to block boost from entering the valve cover and crankcase as there's no inherent check valve function in these diaphragm-type valves. Hopefully I'll be able to try some of this out soon. The Volvo XC90 4.4 V8 has a nice external version of these things.
