well to get the pistons as forged it was a lot of money that would not make a money to ratio match in power

it was like $3200. (not worth the money)

40thou was big enough for the 25DE but again i was happy with the 50thou buy. My uncle will be boreing out my cylinders and all that as hes done lots for skylines so i have good trust in his years of experience that like he said "should be purring real nice soon" :)

so basicaly you will be paying x3 more for forged pistons ive worked out.

when we get the pistons we have to see what they are like apparently they are CR 10:1 so we are not saying measurements at the moment, once thats finalized ill get all that sort or stuff up in this forum.

i need a head gasket but.....

now for all of you to send your advice and locations of head gaskets :P, im thinking of

Cometic Head Gasket 1.3mm - ( what the bore size equals )

  • 2 weeks later...

its finally done now, some 50thou pistons sitting in my block and all my reconditioning done. ill be putting extractors and some other bits on and making sure it "purrring" good i am told, geez my uncle sure does like this car :) truthfuly he said most difficult car ever just because its a gts-4.

the invoice i have up is how much it cost which is good and he did the best ive seen and i dunno if its just because hes my uncles mate but hes a good mechanic, especially sourcing those sets of pistons :(

the bill is pretty good seeing as the work this engine needed after the bottom end was warped.

everyone post up about prices and such and in a week or two ill try get my car together in the spare time and get photos on here of the build and finished project to come. worst bit is i am doing all the labor here to save money but lose time. scan0001.jpg

con is my uncles name and its in running writing so its hard to see, its $1904 :D

original price of pistons were $1400 alone but were found reduced from Nissan :)

yeah i guess so.

i feel like doing the exhaust system but am stumped about where to go and get it done......wish Kakimoto did a non turbo setup from catback.

splitfire coilpacks aswell annnddddd cant think of anything worth doing at the moment.

nothing stopping you using a turbo kakimoto exhaust. just youl be paying an arm and a leg for it. 2.5" would sound good

if you wanna go a custom job, i got a 2.5" catback made for mine, mild steel, mandrel bends and 2 straight through mufflers. sounds great

i can get it from my friend for $750 2nd hand with no damage cat-back.

im also running through some things on the Icat at work and apparently whiteline rear and front swaybars are same for r33's gts and gtr so im working out if a gts4 will be the same. Also dba slotted which a r33 gts4 is the same rotors as a r32 gts-t

also have to look at tein coilovers i can get them for 1500 brand new (whole set) but need to know what ones to buy as the catalog doesn't have gts4 in it :D

well i did get these pistons from Nissan (Japan) as a clearance item. They are a exact replica of the stock ones but 50thou and were $3000+ at full price. I would have got sleeves if i didn't find these.

i just contacted bendix and they don't know what pad a GTS-4 uses........... they just said take the pad off and size it up in the book.

    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
    • @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position  I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on,  and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months
    • There’s probably people who’d like to do it and then when it comes to putting their hands in their pockets they’ll all disappear into the shadows
    • interesting....sounds like the later trans has software differences (or AM vs JDM). If I wasn't going down the tuning route it would be worth looking into retrofitting a new computer to the old box.
