Inside the car there not to bad but underneath the car is just asking for unwanted attention from the police plus they are kind of Ricey / Fast & Furious = Only other people to admire your lights are about "13yo" :P

But ultimetly Its your car if you like it "go for It" dont let other people stop you.

Cheers

Nothing's too girly if you're a girl!! :)

Otherwise, IMO, if you have to have undercar neons, do it properly and fill the whole underside of the vehicle with light, not just two tubes that you bought on special from Kmart.

Neons (and other non-essential vehicle lighting), can look good if they're done properly , safely and legally.

What are neons about really?

Perhaps it's about the 'look at me' aspect of your car. Because the same application of neon was in the use of neon signs to attact customer attention at night time.

I don't think anyone on either side of the fence is going to deny that neons are for attracting the attention of others as at least one of the major benifits. Otherwise people would only have them on for personal viewing?

So are there any other substancial reasons? I'm not sure there are (not that it's a bad thing).

Practically, they aren't the best lighting solution for being able to see what you are doing. And people don't install them in a way that would indicate this.

They also aren't the best lighting choice for seeing the detail in someones workmanship under the bonnet or inside the car. In fact they are a source of light that 'hides' detail and workmanship.

So I'd say the only enhancement benifit is to hide looks that aren't as flash as they could be. So perhaps this is a valid use for them if you are on a budget?

They might be a 'mood lighting' for someone but, I find the GTR does enough mood alteration for me not to need any more. People driving Hyundai Excel's on the other hand no doubt need something to distract them, so the odd wing / Stereo playing the right sort of music and obvoiusly neons fitted probably doesn't go astray.

My last thought is that there may be a percentage of people wanting to put neons on because they get the 'startrek vibe' from it. The sense that they are able to imagine that they are flying along in a space ship?

Whatever peoples reasons for neons and coloured leds , I tihnk we can leave the argument about personal taste on the shelf. People can and do make decisions about what they like all the time so you certainly can do what you want.

However, peoples personal taste also expresses itself in the way we react to seeing things like neons.

So whilst a tiny percentage of people are able to make a decision to don the neon, we can all make our own choices as to what we may or may not yell out at them or type at them on the forum also.

If your outcome is to attract attention of people, you must then understand that this will be including the majority who at this time in out history think neons are ugly, ricey and stupid.

You must therefore pay the community toll for the rice.

Shows like FnF will no doubt continue to help with the image but, in the mean time people who choose not to put neons on thier cars won't be getting any flak for not having any and people who do, will.

On topic;

I think purple can help create the 'pimp' vibe mainly because it is associated with dimly neon lit back alleys from movies. You just need a white fur coat, white hat with feather, gold chains, gold walking stick and to sell the skyline and buy a lowered yank convertible of some kind. And probably go an actual neon sign that says 'PIMP'

rule of thumb is every neon you have your car has to make 100hp

I thought that equation only applied to stickers + Honda, ie for every sticker you put on a Honda you gain an extra 5hp.

Hi Kerr,

Welsome to the forums. :spank: The majority of us a little more 'go fast' orientated that 'look at me kimmy, look at me' You don't get taken seriously as a car enthusist these days if you whack neons on your car.

Purple is i've been told the colour of the sexually fustrated and the gay tele tubby.

true i guess it will also get the holden bogans up my alley with a abase ball bat as they say and i dont want to many people to see my arse even though i must say it is quite nice ahaha... but yea i think i might just stick to car audio as i love my music and just use the extra dough to help out that cause... on that topic does any1 know if the r34 has any good places for splits etc?

oh no love for neons anymore? it's probably only because everyone running past supercheap auto is sticking 2 12" tubes on their $2 rides and driving around acting like they are the ducks nuts.

As mentioned above somewhere, as long as it's done properly it will look good (pending personal taste). If the neons are tucked up under the bodykit and they are bright enough to emit a decent glow effect evenly all around the car they look awesome.

Get some rims, Get some coilies, Get a bodykit and an awesome paint job and then get some high quality neons installed properly and it will look great!

I had pink undercar neons for autosalon, i wouldnt say there... how do u say it, sturdy... they all broke on the way home, and it had nothing to do on how they where installed... just rocks n things fling up n smash them... Maybe only for like car shows and things. purple is a mad colour! good luck on your decision!

SN1P3R's car looks good with the neons, but that does make it look more like a girls car. If the red/pink paint, the pink stickers, and the "THIS IS NOT MY BOYFRIENDS CAR" stickers wasnt enough.

And yet her boyfriend is often asked if its his car... Why is that?

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
