Awsome car.... very tuff looking with a meaty engine!

rough idea...of total landed cost? if u dnt mind me askin...

the number is still "fluid" heh.

today the bill was a $119 blue slip and tomorrow will be a $25 weigh station fee..

then the rta on wednesday - and they'll definitely enjoy extracting their fees.

So I don't think I'll dare tot up the bill for a while.

Mind you with the exchange rate the way it is - maybe i could sell it back to some bloke

in japan and make a profit..

hmm.. I was thinking of powder coating them black .. the oem black ones are

nearly impossible to get now, I'm not too keen on the gold.

black on black looks the goods!

back to the ball park figure...lets pretend a nice vs2 goes for around 70k ish landed on the road here...then add a $30k ish engine and what ball park are we talking? just curious to see for how much extra $$ you could get a nice vs2 with an R1 inside...???

Cheers

My GT-R guy seems to think there have only been 80 or so R1 conversions done in total, so you might be waiting for a while to find one. Definitely a rare car, and definitely collectible. I suggest PMing if you want to know values.

If it's anything like mine, the landed and complied price would've gone up by $30,000 at least if he'd tried to import the same car now.

Tip: when you go pay some shop for a blue slip, go get yourself a public weighbridge certificate

FIRST and don't get asked to come back to the shop to drive your car to the nearest bridge, return it,

then have to go back home again!!

Mine weighed in at 1610 kg which I thought was a bit high as on paper they are 1540 kg ??

tank was only 1/4 full as well. Definitely doesn't have 70kg of japanese electronics in it ...

anyway on price - the market for cars is fubar right now I don't think there is anything other

than firesale prices for local vs2s and the exchange rate right now simple makes importing

another one financial suicide

thanks, they are 245/40/18 (potenza). I doubt the 40 vs 45 could make a 10% difference in speed though..

Guess I'll add this to a list of minor stuff to get done..

that difference in tyre will make 3.6% dfference.

so if the speedo shows 100km, you would be doing 96.4km

very sweet car.

1540kg would be the dry weight, without any fluids in the car. By the time you add up all your fluids, you'd find that was the difference. You've got an extra cooler or two under there too

You're on the right track, my boy.

J, yes it'll be running Nismo cams as part of the R1 package, so the idle will be a bit higher and lumpier. Don't ask me how I know this lol...

For those who don't know, the R1 engine package (without taking into account the rest of the Nismo goodies on r34nur's car) is an engine-out deal, and, depending on the donor car, is worth $30,000 at current exchange rates. 450ps of RB goodness - effectively a 2.6 litre version of the Z-tune motor. When I have spare time, I'll translate the parts list for the package. Very thorough.

J, I'll put you in touch with my GT-R guru, he has connections in Omori factory who might be able to give you some more history on your car.

hehe, come on post some pics of yours now too.

yes I know a few people at omori factory too which is why I asked. :D the R1 packages can and do vary a little bit in terms of what exactly the customer asked for.

but basically it is:

refreshed engine

new N1 block

metal head gasket

N1 pistons

N1 rings

N1 type exhaust manifolds

R1 turbos (Can't remember spec, i have it somewhere, but from memory similar to N1s, GT-SS)

R1 cams (quite mild though, similar to N1 camshafts but a bit more lift from memory)

nismo injectors

re-mapped ECU with the R1 map

nismo air flow meters

all new bearings (rod and mains)

nismo oil pump

new timing belt

nismo sump baffles

so it's basically a rebuild to N1 spec done at nismo omori and with the nice red crinkle coat covers.

the stainless piping, nismo radiator, nismo intake duct, nismo exhaust, nismo intercooler are all options.

people can just take their car to any nismo affiliated workshop to get the engine removed, then send it to omori for all the work to be done. they then send back the complete engine where the tuner re-fits it.

they are desinged to give circuit capable performance but still be street legal and driveable on the street. offering a mild-ish increase from the factory 280ps to 450ps (still more than 50% power up though).

it's a good package.

very similar to what i did with my 32 GTR though I went just a little more wild. after around 600ps but still streetable and tractable at the circuit

I did:

brand new R34 N1 Nur crate engine from nissan

pulled apart and rebuilt at prime garage in kyushu japan (to be blueprinted, tighter tolerances, weight balanced everything and use their own forged pistons)

all other N1 internals obviously

tomei type B cams

Tomei valve springs

fully ported and CC'd head and squish zones removed on one side

oil galleries ported, oil feed restricted

metal head gasket

nismo timing belt

tomei cam gears

mines cam cover baffles

trust sump extension and sump baffle kit

tomei manifolds

HKS GT-SS turbos

tomei dump pipes

sard 700cc injectors

nismo airflow meters

power FC

full trust hard pipe kit (super suction kit + hard pipe kit)

GTS4 4.375:1 diff gears

Koyo twin core radiator

ARC intercooler

trust oil cooler kit

and probably 100 other bits I forgot. about to be fired up in the next few weeks finally! can't wait.

some pics of by B1 Beer Baron spec engine. lol. after all it has been a while since I whored out my engine pics. enjoy.

Tets at work. he's an engine building master. has built more RB26s than I've had hot breakfasts. He works on Super GT cars, and build Yoshioka's 4AG 20V which makes something crazy like 300 something PS NA with NOS.!! and revs to something approaching infinity...

i think you might have to post pics of yours now....to compare....

So about 80 built and 2 in the same thread wow ...what are the chances..sorta like buying a new top and going out and seeing another guy wearing it and thus wrecking your night!

i can also think of another r1 r34 from memory being for sale on carsales awhile ago...

I don't actually remember saying anywhere that mine has an R1 motor

Besides, this is r34nur's thread, and that is one damn sexy car, although Beer Baron's motor make me have impure thoughts about mechanical things too.,,

Oh sorry mis read what you said then, just when you said "if its anything like mine"...thinking you have an r1 engine....but now i get it u mean the exchange rate....my bad...

carry on

Awesome car!

Nismo super coppermix twin plate clutches definitely rattle, so thats normal.

Hey champ congrats on the car.

I have the exact same clutch in my car and it make a rattle sound and gets louder when it warms up.

Also put u foot in the clutch when u start it and turn it off.

    • It makes you wonder, all these people starting to make a billet replacement head, I wonder if any have thought about trying to adapt tech from newer engines into them. You're already at the full design stage to make a billet head... Why not really spice it up and had some more modern tech into the mix too...
    • Connect all the plumbing up properly. The actual worst part about having the turbo unable to actually build boost, is you can and likely would over soon the turbo if you drove the car (free rev while stationary isnt likely to manage it).   If you do have an air leak as Duncan suggested, you'll have a bad time as the AFM will be saying different to reality.   As you have had the engine out, I'd go over all electrical connections again. If you have a consult cable, plug it in, and see what the ECU thinks is going on. Did you touch the timing belt? If so, double check your timing on the gears is correct AND put a timing light on it while it's idling and see what ignition setting you have. Is the AFM you've installed the one that was in the car previously? You said you replaced seals, what seals exactly? What have you had apart?   From memory when I had my RB25DET with factory throttle, there was two plugs the TPS plug on the loom could go to. One would leave the car running like shit, the other made it work, I think one plug on the TPS area was for something else (an option). It's too many years since I saw that part of the loom to remember properly though.   Is the car idling smooth (as smooth as an RB can)? Does it smell fuelled up?   I have a feeling either timing in timing belt is off, or a sensor isn't right.
    • Theres still skid pan and motokhana days up in QLD at least that are $100 or less. The ones that are ran as "driver training" less so, they're expensive, but just normal skid pan days like SAU ran are still low cost. And thats one of the places I learned to be a lariken, purely by asking for passenger rides, and how people were doing crazy things. Reese gave me plenty of pointers back in the day for skid pan! And yes Duncan, I will never forget your pointers for track work. Especially after Neil got out saying "I am NEVER getting in the car with him again!" 😛
    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
