Finally It Gets Thru Compliance And Is Tucked Away At Home

Great thing about Nur Specs, there's very little you HAVE to do :P

Some new wheels if you feel like a change

might look at a more solid strut brace too

Mostly just upkeep. It's already modified quite extensively from the factory

You might want to look at a sound system that works in this country, the only other Nur I have been in has GPS that likes to think we're driving in the middle of the ocean...

well despite my handle it isn't a nur, it was a vs II which at 9000 kms got the R1 do over ..

but yeah I get your point.

I like the existing rims. I might get spacers though, thats an easy mod, yes?

And ICE. You are right the pioneer doesn't put me in the ocean but it reboots constantly when it has

a view of the sky, when in a garage it is happy, however ..

g) there is a clutch rattle in neutral that goes away when I put my foot in the clutch.

Do coppermix twins rattle? I remember reading they don't. Is it the flywheel perhaps?

it isn't enough for passers by to think there is a problem but it is there.

Awesome car!

Nismo super coppermix twin plate clutches definitely rattle, so thats normal.

Nothing looks tougher than a black gtr, nice ride bro

H ) 1200 is abit high, on my gtr the idle control is under the middle of the plenum, there is a flat screw driver screw go 1/4 turn at a time give rev let settle should do the trick, if not got a gasket leak

I ) Nice rims what size are the tyres on them if they are smaller then fac will put out speedo ( reading faster than doing will make the odo clock up quicker ) 245/45/18 i think are fac the 34 check rolling diameter at local tyre shop.

Car - Amazing - WoW

the only thing i can give advice on is the rattles....i have a r34 gt 98 and i just went through the whole car untill all the rattles wer gone.....just spend a bit of time and if ur brave/stupid enough (not sure which one you would be if you did this to a gtr) you can pull out ur dash and speedo and all the side doors etc to find the rattles...i had to pull my drivers door apart because of a rattle...found a bolt in the bottom of it... :S

good luck with the car

dont touch that beautiful engine!!

Engine ..

What should I do to this car? I'm thinking perhaps doing anything significant

to the engine would diminish it?

Can you stop posting pics of your car.. SERIOUSLY!!!!

YOU ARE MAKING US ALL JEALOUS!!!!!!

STOP IT :)

STOP IT

i had more than enough aggro and unexpected expenses getting it over here,

and way over 3 months of a wait, plus took the keys on the eve of a worldwide

economic depression.

But ok... from now on I'll just keep it hidden!

his car is not a nur doof. it's a v spec II modified by nismo. :)

cheers

I wanted to take some more pictures, including of my questions.. but so far they are

a) after an hour on the road the back of the car emits a quiet but annoying squeak.. squeak..

over bumps, eg the damn pacific highway north of coffs. doesn't seem to happen

when cold.

b) does anyone know a great mobile detailer guy, who loves black, in sydney?

c) Should the fuse box in the engine bay have a cover?

d) does every gtr have little dash rattles on bumpy highways? I've got a couple but won't

go hunting for them if thats just the way things tend to be? like, coming from behind the

dash, or air vents there are these little scratchy ticky sounds over bumps. My other car

is a golf and its solid and tight, so maybe I'm expecting too much of a vintage car.

e) the biggie :) The gear stick has what I imagine was very shiny looking aluminium with the

GTR logo but it is all tarnished. If this is a stock gtr gear stick, is there a stock cleaning

product people use on it?

f) when I open the door(s) they don't hold open they just swing as wide as you like and on

a camber will shut again. The door arm looks like it has outdents on it, which i can just feel,

is that something that can be tightened up or is it just the way it is?

h) it idles at 1200 indicated, is that about right? very smooth but seems high.

i) the speedo reads 10% over. I'd rather it read right, is that tweakable?

specs, well, I'll take it somewhere to check it out see what it does on pulp.

it has a nismo ecu, n1 block and all the nismo r parts... an R1 conversion with the

omori plate in the bay (nismo still have the goodies list up somewhere). S tune

suspension and the weldina exhaust which has a lovely popping on the overrun..

A) shouldn't really have any squeaks. could be easy to find, could be hard. worth looking though. could just be some loose stuff in the cabin.

B) don't know anyone really great sorry.

C) yes it should. it was most likely taken off to jump start the car. or taken off when cleaned at the docks. check your boot or glovebox for it. the cleaning guys at AAT are generally pretty lazy. they will take bits apart but not put them back together.

D) shouldn't really have dash rattles at 16,000kms.... my current 34 with 80,000 has none. my last R32 GTR had none either and it was 19 years old with 100,000kms!

E) not sure what to use. but if it's really bad, and it's the standard gear knob you can buy a new one. they are not too expensive and it just screws off.

F) Marss answered this one. yes they should stay open. I'm surprised they've already gone on a 16,000kms car.

G) tbag's answer was only valid for 32 GTR. with 34 GTR they have a getrag box and a dual mass flywheel. if you have an aftermarket clutch chances are you no longer have the DM flywheel. so in neutral with foot OFF the clutch you will get a little "clackety clack" type noise and possibly a fainter grinding type noise. it's due to the combo of the getrag box and no DM flywheel. it's no big deal. just a little annoying.

h) idle should not be that high. around 900 is normal. but will idle up around 1200 when cold. do you know what cams are in your R1 engine?

i) it can be fixed if you like. look up instrument calibration in the yellow pages to find someone who can do it.

awesome car mate. The R1s are a really cool upgrade. Lots of nismo goodies bolted onto it. an R1 modded 34 is right up there with the pick of GTRs to get. now come over to my place and lets play cars! :D

lol, I like to gather them all around me. 34 GTR, 32 GTR, RX7, Silva, and all the parts, then sit there going Broom! Broom!. it's normal isn't it?

thanks, they are 245/40/18 (potenza). I doubt the 40 vs 45 could make a 10% difference in speed though..

Guess I'll add this to a list of minor stuff to get done..

The japanese page is here

http://www.nismo.co.jp/shop/shop/omori/engine/r1/index.html

but it isn't clear to me whether cams are on the parts list ..

Other omori R1 conversions put in 272 degree cams, but maybe not the R34 conversion.

That post is ooooooooooold... and he already corrected me... I don't need it twice

But that being the case... NEW TURBOS! MORE BOOST! HEADWORK! SWAY BARS! :P

I could mod a Vspec II, but not a Nur...

Wow Just wow.

Dont spoil it. Im sure nismo did all thats needed for you to have a awesome car that you can just sit back and enjoy. I say leave it modless.

And that engine bay! Perfect.

lol, I like to gather them all around me. 34 GTR, 32 GTR, RX7, Silva, and all the parts, then sit there going Broom! Broom!. it's normal isn't it?

the fact that you have stated "it's normal isn't it?" .. means i feel normal now aswell.... I thought i was the only one to secretly sit around and play with my cars .. tucked away in the garage..

btw..... that IS one SEXY SEXY car ...congrats and enjoy ..

yep, that's why I asked. it's quite possible your R1 engine has larger cams. I must say mate it's a very cool 34. I'd almost rather it over a nur anyway. it should certainly have a fair bit more power than standard too.

and seriously bring it over one day! lol I want to check it out. and if you would like to know I can probably find out from japan for you exactly what mods have been done to your R1.

You're on the right track, my boy.

J, yes it'll be running Nismo cams as part of the R1 package, so the idle will be a bit higher and lumpier. Don't ask me how I know this lol...

For those who don't know, the R1 engine package (without taking into account the rest of the Nismo goodies on r34nur's car) is an engine-out deal, and, depending on the donor car, is worth $30,000 at current exchange rates. 450ps of RB goodness - effectively a 2.6 litre version of the Z-tune motor. When I have spare time, I'll translate the parts list for the package. Very thorough.

J, I'll put you in touch with my GT-R guru, he has connections in Omori factory who might be able to give you some more history on your car.

    • It makes you wonder, all these people starting to make a billet replacement head, I wonder if any have thought about trying to adapt tech from newer engines into them. You're already at the full design stage to make a billet head... Why not really spice it up and had some more modern tech into the mix too...
    • Connect all the plumbing up properly. The actual worst part about having the turbo unable to actually build boost, is you can and likely would over soon the turbo if you drove the car (free rev while stationary isnt likely to manage it).   If you do have an air leak as Duncan suggested, you'll have a bad time as the AFM will be saying different to reality.   As you have had the engine out, I'd go over all electrical connections again. If you have a consult cable, plug it in, and see what the ECU thinks is going on. Did you touch the timing belt? If so, double check your timing on the gears is correct AND put a timing light on it while it's idling and see what ignition setting you have. Is the AFM you've installed the one that was in the car previously? You said you replaced seals, what seals exactly? What have you had apart?   From memory when I had my RB25DET with factory throttle, there was two plugs the TPS plug on the loom could go to. One would leave the car running like shit, the other made it work, I think one plug on the TPS area was for something else (an option). It's too many years since I saw that part of the loom to remember properly though.   Is the car idling smooth (as smooth as an RB can)? Does it smell fuelled up?   I have a feeling either timing in timing belt is off, or a sensor isn't right.
    • Theres still skid pan and motokhana days up in QLD at least that are $100 or less. The ones that are ran as "driver training" less so, they're expensive, but just normal skid pan days like SAU ran are still low cost. And thats one of the places I learned to be a lariken, purely by asking for passenger rides, and how people were doing crazy things. Reese gave me plenty of pointers back in the day for skid pan! And yes Duncan, I will never forget your pointers for track work. Especially after Neil got out saying "I am NEVER getting in the car with him again!" 😛
    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
