Hey guys,

was driving my 33gtst tonight, lit the tyres up a little bit and then drove home.

whilst stopped at lights and such i could smell a strange moist burning kind of smell, and a little bit of smoke was coming from under my hood.

pulled over and the smell seemd to be coming from rear of engine moth side, any ideas?

sorry that im asking about a smell that none of you can smell but i was a bit worried.

cheers, Gezza

It happened to me once too! And it was also at night.

Next day, I inspected the engine bay and I then realised that I had run over and simultaneously skidded on a blue-tongue lizard.

The smell lasted for days.

Bet this story doesn't help at all eh?

BTW (talking about animals), did you mention "moth"?? :)

hahah, thats unfortunate :) for the lizard!

well it doesnt explain any mechanical issues but ill be sure to check for squished animal tomorrow  , thanks anyway.

and yeah did seem to mention "moth" somewhere in there, my bad lol.

cheers

I had that happen to me, same actions causing it, thought I'd burnt the clutch.

Turns out I loosened the oil line to the turbo and a tiny bit of oil was leaking out and being burned off resulting in a smell that also came thru the aircon a bit. Also had steam seeping out from the front guards.

Don't know if this will help but you never know. :)

Wow that sounds precisley what could have happend, what did you do to fix it, new clamp or something? i gotta jack the car up to get to the turbo right?

my oil pressure was also going up when ever i got the revvs up a bit and then went back down at red lights, or is that normal lol :) .

thanks for the help guys

Gezza

my oil pressure also dropped. It's most noticeable if you give it a bit of a rev, what happens is a tiny bit of oil leaks out and drips onto hot metal and burns away. Oil pressure will drop a little as a result but not much.

To fix it, the mechanic simply installed a new line and sealed it properly, we initially tried just clamping it better and it worked at first. However the problem soon came back hence the new line. I didn't have a standard turbo though so if you do it may work to just clamp it. It'll cost less as otherwise it's a few hours labour to install the new line, good luck.

Cheers Steve. :)

thanks heaps Steve, ill have a look tomoz after work and most likely post my result that night.

hopefully i dont need new line as i dont wanna spend more money on something that doesnt get me more power lol.

anyway thanks again

Gezza
