ok this is really driving me nuts

i'll be driving along at 100km and all of a sudden it will go in and out of overdrive, in - 2650rpm .. out- 2900rpm usually when its warm. Other times i'll be driving normally and it will change down from 4th - 3rd without touching the accelerator?

i've searched the forum some say it could be the alarm causing it, i did get an alarm installed around the time it started?

another says to clean the plugs/sockets near the wiper bottle under the bonnet, trying this now.

Could the TPS be out of whack? i've had it off to clean, have i put it back in the right position?

Thanks in advance

anyone? btw i've taken to transmission shops and they all say it fine?

that happens to me exactly. It wont stay in overdrive especially when driving on 100km (car is warm) it goes from approx 2500 up to about 4000 revs then whenever it feels like the overdrive kicks in again. I spoke to my mechanic and he said to me that my gearbox is slipping. He also said that when it revs higher push the overdrive button on and off and see if it will help when driving at 100km or when it revs higher that its suppose too.

hope this helps

Have had two cars recently in the workshop, both presenting with the same aforementioned problem. Both, I'm sorry to inform you, had to have new/recod transmissions fitted. Not going into/staying in overdrive. When the converter starts to slip it heats the trans fluid massively and the trans fails. If you smell the trans fluid on the dipstick it will smell burnt regardless of colour. Unfortunately servicing the auto wont accomplish anything. I drove along with the scan tool displaying current data and manually put it in and out of overdrive and nothing happened.

The first thing i would be doing is getting the car onto a scan tool and go from there. Let us know how you go, good luck.
