bludbunny
Hi Guys Does anyone know what the law is in QLD for putting the good ol "FOR SALE" in the window of your car? I've heard it's ok to drive around, and park on private property, but not to park in public (council land) with the signing in place. Anyone know what the go is? cheers, Brett Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23976-qld-laws-on-roadside-car-selling/ Share on other sites

Nizman
if that form isn't there then they just tow it away Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23976-qld-laws-on-roadside-car-selling/#findComment-513967 Share on other sites
bludbunny
I'd be happy for them to tow it away... if they left behind the money! Makes selling a car hard - I suppose they expect us all to sell our cars for half price to a yard so they can double it and sell it off themselves. Anquetil
If you have a price you must have RWC at all times. But if you have just a for sale sign then no RWC is required. bludbunny
From the Department of Transport Website: When can vehicles be sold without a Safety Certificate? The only time vehicles do not require a certificate to be sold is when they are unregistered or when they are traded to or between licensed motor dealers. Vehicles can still be sold for parts or restoration, but they must be de-registered before being offered for sale. How long are Safety Certificates current for? Make sure certificates are current. For dealers, certificates must have been issued in the previous three months or 1000 kilometres prior to sale, whichever comes first. For private sellers Safety Certificates must have been issued in the previous two months or 2000 kilometres prior to sale, whichever comes first. Selling a vehicle? If you are selling a registered vehicle, you will need to obtain and display a Safety Certificate from the time you offer the vehicle for sale. Once you have a Certificate, which identifies the Approved Inspection Station which issued it, you must display it on the vehicle from the time the vehicle is offered for sale. Click here for a seller's checklist. If you fail to display a Safety Certificate on the vehicle from the time of sale you will receive an on-the-spot fine of $375. Displaying Safety Certificates Safety Certificates must be displayed in a very obvious place. FOR EXAMPLE... Motorbike - front forks or guard Car - windscreen or window Trailer - draw-bar Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23976-qld-laws-on-roadside-car-selling/#findComment-514952 Share on other sites
R32GTR
Can you display an "Expression of Interest" ? Like word a sign: This car is not FOR SALE however if I were offered $10 000 I might decide to sell it. Thats not offering it for sale is it? locutus_of_bris
Yeah, having to have a current safety certificate sucks, I got 4 of them before I sold my commonwhore (it was a piece of crap though). Still, it adds up when you buy 4 of them. I like the idea of the "not for sale sign" Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23976-qld-laws-on-roadside-car-selling/#findComment-519007 Share on other sites

Guest hoon69
displaying a rwc with your details is like saying to a car thief "here take my keys and steal it now" it is a stupid law and yeah if its on public rd or land you are required to show a rwc or have it as parts or restoration, mind you qld council is pretty pathetic with all these laws and how many cars do you see with a rwc hanging from its window,i guess the law is the law,but i know i wont be putting my details on show for anyone, especially car thieves..
