i wouldnt bother with a side mount

once you turn the boost up and crank up the exhaust i believe the side mount in the side locaiton is a just a big heater panel

i dont believe you get the gains you get from a decent core in the front of the car

Id have to agree, even tho there is dyno proof they work, i know that in mine with the usual bolt ons, the R34 sidemount i had was too hot to touch after a good spirited drive. I dont think there is sufficient airflow on my front bar, could be different on the normal S2 Front end tho.

I just got back from a trackday last night. Dam impressed with the Blitz. The "hot" side of the FMIC was cool to touch, and the "cold" side was ICE cold. Must be doing something right. And the J-Pipe was also cool-warm after coming back in from a good 5 laps of hard driving.

This is mine, Was a second hand custom made FMIC.

The reo had to be cut, but I just marked where I wanted it cut then took it to the local panel beaters. They cut it, primed and painted it for me for a carton.

ok...I never considered a r34 smic. Basically longer term im wanting to running higher boost on the stock turbo (exhaust is already done).

As car is a daily and reliable driver i want to keep it that way, so thought FMIC would be sensible in first step before mucking around.

Finchy33. My front bar is the same as yours. Any chance you have front on pics? I'm liking what your saying about the minor trimming only.

thanks

I ran higher boost with no problems on r34 side mount.

:P

Each to their own i guess. I had no issues with mine even on track days :P And those spirited drives.

But i guess on a long term basic a fmic would be a good upgrade to have!!

Yeah thats what im saying.

I Just think the front bar i have isnt too well designed for airflow. So FMIC i went :(

Well ive gota fmic on my r33 series 2, bolted just under the rio bar. No idea what brand it is but it works well! The piping runs through the factory holes on the pod filter side of the engine bay...none of that cutting through the left hand guard under the washer container.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
