Frustrates me why people cant perform the simplest of tasks on their own cars...

Going to a mechanic for an oil change and shit, waht are you a girl?

some people just drive em man. But chill out he keeps mechanics like me in the job!

Also pal now where is too far if you want a joint that has experience on the model car you have even just a basic service someone who has worked on them before will see a common fault or specific model related issues and pick it up before anyone who has worked on maybe one before. I will be travelling to melbourne to get my big service and dyno tune on my car soon cause there nobody in geelong with as much experience with my model gtr

there is status tuning off hammond road in dandenong, he is on here as uras.

I pm'd him a while ago about doing my 100,000k service and never got a reply but his web site says he does general maintenance.

some people just get so shitty over stuff that dont concern them. he may be a skyline specialist but im certainly not i work for ford. so when it comes to gettin mine fixed i let someone with expeience go their hardest. again they are gonna know the specifics of what needs checking and fixing before i will. that said if he hada falcon i could do it for him!

Depends what you need done.

I am by no means a mechanic either, but I do change the fluids & filters (you know, the basics)

If it is general stuff, I would take a trip to Ferntree Gully Nissan (new car service ONLY). I take my M35 there (~40 min drive from Pakenham). Craig in particular is one to talk to.

They are pretty quick if a part need to be shipped over as well

Unfortunately I cannot offer anyone in the Frankston/Mornington area (I work in Mt. Eliza and was raised in F'ston).

I tried Mornington Nissan, but would DEFINATELY NOT RECOMMEND THEM. When I got my car back it had mysteriously travelled 35km's and the economy on the screen had dropped from 8.9km/L to 8.5km/L (not much but when you consider that it hadn't been reset for 40,000km's...), anyway I don't like a mechanic (or manager) taking my car out for a thrashing.

Don't get me started on Frankston Nissan... Hell, Berwick Nissan said that they would treat it like it was a Falcon AND charge me $97 per hour!

None of the guys I have spoken to in the workshops around that area have instilled enough confidence in me to warrant handing over the keys to my baby.

Sorry Bud. RE Customs or Ferntree Gully Nissan for mods/serious stuff, my garage for minor services.

Ferntree Gully Nissan you say...thats an interesting one..Live around the corner from them :)

How much do they usually charge for a minor service? I thought dealerships would always charge a lot..

That's why I said Ferntree Gully. They have no problem dealing with imports, and actually enjoy working on something a bit different.

Craig (service guy) said that when my car was dropped driven in, it was "tools down, lets have a look at this thing" as it was the only one in VIC at the time and 1 or only 2 in Australia. It only took 10 days for a wheel bearing assembly to be ordered, landed & installed. Only cost ~$400 all up.

.... look at it this way, if they can repair/service etc an NM35 Stagea without a concern, they can deal with any Nissan

The last Major service I had there included a transmission service (which is $250).

I don't let them change the oil or filter as I only use a fully synthetic oil, but they did everything else including a "factory reset" of the electrics.

Set me back $525 - that's $275 for all other fluids & filters and $250 for the transmission.

Not too bad I thought.

They also gave it a complimentary full interior vac and wipe down of the dash. Nice.

    • This was a huge help.  We followed the steps,  although shifting into 2nd was actually into 3rd for us,  and 1st was into 2nd ( steps 9 and 11) .  The long flash was the 4th flash.  So shift solenoid A is possibly the culprit.  Is this inside the transmission itself? Or is it accessible by just front the pan? Or is it bolted to the outside of the transmission?  Thanos for your help everyone
    • Can you enlighten me on your best practice regarding these hoses? I don't wanna make the same mistake if you already got a better solution.
    • I have some silicon hoses already, for example engine to watercooler. But yeah, I get the sentiment. The lower intercooler silicon hose is drippy too, despite not being very old. Does anyone except Nismo make these same lines out of rubber? Long term I think they'd be the better replacement, especially since the car won't live as hard a life anymore as in the past nor be driven as often.
    • I know most issues are just age related. But for example the turbo oil drains, there is dash adapters for these and you can just make a braided teflon line for them and (probably) never have them leak again. Also not terribly expensive. Can you even get the factory hardlines from new? Or are they repairable if they break?
    • I know it'd be much much easier with the tool. I hope I can find one that won't take 3 weeks to get to me an isn't a "Asian models kit" that has tons of (to me) useless adapters for a load of cash.   It's a summer project/fun car. I do wanna enjoy it, without endless downtime over and over. So yeah I would even go and buy an engine crane + stand to save myself the trouble of hard to reach or unreachable places going bad later on. Would also be a good opportunity to put on a Fluidamper, renew the mains seals and stuff like that. I have some money on the side that I can use for that, what I wouldn't want to or be able to do is let everything be done by a shop or have my engine completely rebuild right now. I intend to do most of the "doable" jobs myself. Pulling an engine can't be that hard, can it?
